Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Wonder Woman 1984 was decidedly not wonderful.

It was actually partly awful. Some parts were good but I expected more after a pretty solid film the first time around.
My god the dinner scene at the beginning was just bizarre and cringy- and it was because of Gadot, not Wiig. I get what they were trying to do, have Diana finally open up to someone after 70 years, but it was like Gadot forgot which character she was supposed to be. I could get Wiig hitting on WW, that's her character but it seemed like WW was hitting on Wiig which just didn't make sense at that moment. Like pathetically desperate for a freaking god. Almost predatory.

Other little issues too with the action, like lassoing a plane several thousand feet up and other silliness even for a superhero movie; action felt like that bad Ang Lee Hulk movie. I feel like the director went for that 80s action aesthetic with that mall scene but almost too over the top; felt less like a Schwarzenegger scene and more like a scene out of a Mac and Me.

I did love the Mandalorian in this, how he hammed it up, he nailed that 80s TV evangelist/huckster vibe imo. That overzealous, fruity, implied-coked-out demonstration of the Swaggerts, Bakers, Hinns, etc. I thought he did a great job chewing the scenery.

A lot of people would like to go to the movies, covid and all

A lot of people would like to go to the moves, but most aren't willing to risk COVID to do it.

Wait, what? Did I miss that?
Steve didn't come back, he took over some other guys body. This guy had no say in fucking Wonder Woman, though I can not think of a single guy that is into woman that would not fuck Gal Gadot.

It's been a hot minute since I dipped my toes into this(early on) amazing franchise. I'll never forget the first time I saw this movie, my dad had rented it on VHS from the local mom and pop rental store(anyone else remember when that was a thing?), in the mid 80's. A Shot in the Dark. God damn was Peter Sellers brilliant. 9/10 and by far the best Pink Panther movie.

Fuck Steve Martin for trying to replace him.

Peter Sellers was a genius. His comedic range is on full display in one of my favorite comedies — “Dr. Strangelove”.

Spot on. I concur.

I think they thought too much about making a movie from the 80's that they leaned it to far to the bad writing and plots of the 80's too. I think the initial 80's vibe of it was cool but this movie felt like it was written and directed in the 80's. Even the lack of CGI and modern film making made it feel like it was a movie from the 80's.

It's actually surprising they would release this as it was. It feels like it need to be reshot and edited in a completely different way. The only superhero movie I can think of that was this puzzling and a head scratcher was the newest Fantastic 4 movie.

I just wonder if the HBO Max release was because of this movie and possible alot of the slate are actually sub-par. It may have just made sense to release them on HBO Max so they would get hit with massively bad reviews which would pile into the issue of people not going to movie theaters.

I feel like I am piling on Wonder Woman 1984, but it was decidedly not good. Where it went for campy charm, it came back as awkward, clumsy douche baggery...sad writing had me feeling bad for the actors (Mando in particular, but at least he he got a nice pay day).

DC is capable of making a good movie (the first WW for starters), but I can not understand how they consistently make their characters so 2 dimensional and personally uninteresting...not to mention their obsession shiny metal and visual electricity. So it goes...glad I did not pay for the family to go to the theatre

HBO's Bee Gee's doc (How Can You Mend a Broken Heart) was good/worth watching...lots of elements on which I had no idea/not too much dwelling on the sensational. I came away with a new appreciation of the Brothers and their music. I'm a push over for harmony...

The director of wonder woman 1984 also wrote and was a producer of the movie. She only directed the first wonder woman movie. I think DC tends to give power to one person and Marvel tends to have the writing and directing duties separate.

I think we see it alot in movie making and TV (like the last few seasons of game of thrones) is when the same people are writing and directing the product tends to suffer. I think when the same people write something then direct it then they can't separate and see when certain things aren't working. They spend so much time writing the script that they don't want to change it to make it work on screen.

There are very few good writer/directors and when they are good they tend to make some of the best movies of all times. DC got spoiled with Christopher Nolan doing the Dark Knight trilogy but they don't need to make movies that good and really shouldn't be shooting to do so. If they are making movies that end up solidly in the 7.x range on imdb they are going to be just like Marvel.

Yes, the Dark Knight movies were very good, but almost a separate franchise. The bulk of DC movies have failed to capture the “mirth” of most of the Marvel fare...too rigid and serious— edgy, heading toward maniacal in many intervals...and that odd fascination with shiny metal and electricity that I mentioned above.:chuckle: That said, I take your point as to writers/ directors.
Happy New Year!

DC can't even get the movie Flash running done correctly. It's so bad I can't come up with a good analogy.
