So I watched the first 4 parts of Snyder's Justice League last night before I fell asleep, and the movie so far is just not good. I hadn't seen the original release, so I don't have that frame of reference, but this version of the film just feels like a pure Snyder indulgence (and not in a good way).
The egregiously excessive use of slow mo for every fucking action scene and a whole host of other scenes that have no logical or theatrical reason for occurring in slow mo is so incredibly off-putting. No wonder the movie clocks in at over 4 hours. When you use slow mo shots in literally every other scene it loses all impact and quickly becomes an annoyance. Aquaman leaving the ocean? Slow mo. Aquaman entering ocean? Slow mo. Lois Lane walking down street? Slow mo. Wonder Woman standing in hallway with wind blowing? Slow mo. Batman sitting on a building? Slow mo. Enough. Stop it. Get some help.
I also have to say that the soundtrack for this movie is atrocious. Every time a song starts playing all I could think was either "wow this song is really, really bad" or "wow, this song does not fit this scene at all." The Wonder Woman trademark wailing noise is particularly grating. It almost feels like they're trying to satirize that classic DC tone of "I'm 14 and this is deep, life is pain". But they aren't. It's just bad.
And a special mention for the Flash in this movie and the dude who plays him. He's awful and the character is awful. Every time he's featured in a scene alone I'm anxiously counting the seconds until it's over. The Cyborg dude isn't much better as I'm not sure 'mean face sulking under hoodie' as a performance lends much weight to his tragic backstory. But apparently he didn't even have a backstory before Snyder's cut, so +1 I guess? Gal Gadot is doing the bare minimum of acting. And just in general, the acting and script just leave a lot to be desired across the board.
It's not the worst movie I've ever seen, and I'm not surprised a lot of DC fans really enjoyed this version. But I am surprised that anyone would call this monstrosity a good film in its own right. But hey, maybe the third act is a completely different movie and my mind will be blown at the end.
I assume it's better than the original (can it really be worse?), but you can only polish a turd so much.
I'll watch it at some point, but I just find the DC movies to be so boring. It's like they're trying to do what Marvel is doing, but no one can figure out how to write any of their characters. Like, they had an epic fight between Batman and Superman and they somehow figured out how to blow it. These guys are clown shoes.
