There is a historical connection for Cleveland Steel, and I could definitely rally around steelhead as I love to fish for them and they literally live in my backyard. I'm still prepared to be very disappointed.

Are you ready Cleveland fans????? It's.... HAMMERTIME!!! (250 games later) in case you missed it. you can't touch this.

I mean 10 cent beer night is a part of Cleveland history so maybe the Cleveland hammers are a possibility

Interesting but 1) they are prey, not predators and humans eat them, 2) the Steel part makes you think of the Steelers, and 3) I don't know if the community can unite around a fish and a trout certainly has nothing to do with Cleveland baseball history.

If they are serious about the baseball history part then it has to relate to the Indians somehow because the Indians are ALL they history we have until you get back to the 19th century. But they said absolutely no Native American names or affiliations so I have no idea how they're going to come up with something that connects to Cleveland baseball but has nothing to do with Indians.
Steelhead are not prey.

They are the top of the food chain in Lake Erie.

Humans eat everything and there are teams with fans that have aquatic mascots.

Limiting to Cleveland's baseball history is... limiting. It is no bar to naming teams, particularly these days when marketing and color schemes are heavily considered.

Cleveland sits on Lake Erie. An aquatic theme is appropriate. Steelhead are the top predator in Erie. It is not far-fetched.

The only real bar is steel, but fuck the Steelers. Cleveland has a history as great as Shittsburg's when it comes to steel.

Steelhead have two direct connections to Cleveland.

I think the Indians' red, white and blue is the best color scheme in town, but a Foresters name with dark green as the primary color would be badass.

Yeah, I can only imagine how much of a field day Steelers fan would have if our baseball team picked a name with the word 'steel' in it. I think that would be a tough sell.

Maybe go with the Cleveland Red Socks, with the motto that Cleveland might have a lower payroll than Boston but we can spell socks.

Seeing as the river fire spurned the founding of the EPA, and they can't use Indian names even if they are part of our local language (so no Cuyahogas), what about the Toxic Avengers?

I'm going to piggy back off of Macbdog and say the Cleveland Toxic Avenger Guardians! Marvel marketing tie ins, lots of local reference, appeal to the kids with cartoon mascots, green environmentalists would love us, it's win all the way around.
