Rule 5 draft talk

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
People talk about making trades but a few details to remember:

1) any trade needs to be made before the roster deadline of 11/19/21 to have any real impact.
2) trades after that roster deadline do not open up spots on the 40 man for CLE to protect other people (ie a 3 for 1 trade could open up 2 40 man spots but no one new can be added to the 40 man (& hence protected in the major league portion of the R5).
3) traded away players not already on the 40 man are still exposed with their new club..

due to this the player values get impacted/ reduced even more..

Ok let’s put this to Bimbo…

Kwan or Oscar Gonzalez? Which would you protect?

If there is a trade - it will happen before 11/19

This is kind of an odd/unfair "or"... If we don't protect (roster is the correct word, sorry) Ogonz, he is GONE, Rule 5 doesn't really apply in his case, he will be a minor league free agent.

Kwan will be here if not picked, he doesn't have a choice.

People seem to be coming around to the idea that the org has a real problem coming up with the Rule Five.

Its difficult to imagine a major trade involving multiple Rule Five eligible prospects for an impact bat before the R5, because it would merely move the problem to another team.

One way or the other, we are going to lose talent this off season...whether it is young vets or solid prospects.

Thats why I dont understand why the FO didn't make a major trade last off season or at the deadline. An overpay would have been better than giving talent away for free.

We currently have 44 guys on the 40-man, and there are 10-11 pretty obvious guys we could wave goodbye to pretty easily to get us down to 33-34 guys when we want to open up some spots.

I still think on paper we have a lot more talent than the 6-7 spots available though. You can make a list a good 15 deep and no one would blame you for keeping any of them....

I'm starting to wonder if Palacios actually is a lock for a roster spot. If Chang continues to impress and the front office decides to hang onto him going into 2022, I don't see where they'll be able to carry all four of Chang, Clement, Miller and Palacios on the 40 man roster considering there are the six locks @Martyinnewyork listed on top of everyone else already on the 40 and that will be added to the big league club in the winter. However, I would add Pilkington as a lock as well considering how well he's pitched and how illogical it would be to deal for him in July and then leave him protected in December.

I think I would be keeping Palacios over Clement.

I’m just saying we can get to 6-7 spots without much effort.

I’m really not expecting us to lose anyone that matters all that much.

There are usually 13 or 14 selections, and I’m betting on that number being lower than usual this year.

Steven Kwan's line this year 51 games at AA (his 1st run there) and 2 at AAA (so far) - He turns 24 in 3 days.

you can't risk letting that go.

What was the Alan Greenspan phrase? Irrational exuberance. It’s normal to be excited about our prospects’ success at each level of the minors. But the odds of multiple prospects emerging into everyday players is long, unfortunately. We can all hope for the best but also prepare for the harsh reality that only a very, very few prospects will ultimately succeed.

Success rate of the prospects into the bigs isnt good and that's normal for any club...

This is my top 15 list for the rule 5 possible guys, Bracho is 16th...(@MadThinker88 for helping design this the other day) not in exact order though...

Freeman
Morris
Valera
Lavastida
Palacios
Kwan
Benson
Oscar Gonzalez
Rocchio
Pilkington
Cantillo
Noel
Tena
Scott
Jerson Ramirez

Barring injuries, all of the 15 candidate list that we have to choose from to add to the 40 man roster will likely make it to spring training/get a chance to make it to the bigs on the Indians/Guardians or with a different team. Even guys like Monasterio, Brooks, Call, Marabell, Pinto, Enright, Hillman, Krauth, Broom, who aren't on that 15 list, will get a chance to get on a major league club in 22/23....

That isn't a small list and that's just for 22... Doesn't include Battenfield, Brennan, Curry, Naylor, Mikolajchak, Burns, Gavin Williams, Wolf, Greene, etc.... I can keep going

My point is, yes, normally prospects don't have a high success of staying in the bigs, but the Indians lately have only been acquiring prospects with certain traits and guys with those traits have a high chance of seeing big league time... If you can develop a ton of guys who can hit the bigs, your chance of success as an organization in short and long terms go way up.

This crop of prospects has a good chance of majority getting big league time and as an organization, you cannot do any better than that.
