Rule 5 Talk 23

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
If there's any place a back up catcher can be found.. it's in this phase of the draft..
I am sure but these guys are not even AA level .... so it is more for backing up Lavastida

Enright and K. Kelly gone for nothing, hate it, but that's a sign of a well run organization too.

But, if you are looking or upside ... these guys will barely be Morgan level reliever (front-end). Glad we didn't lose guys who have potential like Hankins to be more than a filler. Colorado needs relievers bad and at 38 so hard to get Kelly back easily. Miami was at 39 with a bunch of hitting needs, so they may return Enright. But, just need to get to ST and have a few injuries that get 60-day protection

I am kind of surprised that we let Lingos go unprotected. Had okay numbers in AA and AAA last year. Probably not the upside we are looking for and maybe not room to groom him any longer but still not a bad guy.

Made it barely to AA ... not much of a bat it looks like after rookie ball

He looks like he is strong defensively though (outside of PB issues). Cleveland focuses on defense, so I am sure his issues can be fixed...

Guards lose: Eli Lingos to the Rockies

Guards add: Bradley Hanner from the Minnesota Twins

Not a normal target on paper since he has a higher walk per 9 than Cleveland normally goes for...

82 total picks 15MLB and 67AAA for this years Rule 5 draft.

AAA portion goes 7 rounds deep - Phillies selected 7 total players from this portion to go along with their MLB selection of Noah Song.

Cleveland loses 3 players total. Nick Enright and Kevin Kelly (who was just traded to the Rays for $$$ considerations) in the MLB portion and Eli Lingos in the AAA draft.

Everyone doing ok??? Has everyone taken a few deep breathes and relaxed???

All in all I feel it was a good R5 for the Guardians this year.
A couple bullpen arms got taken & will have a chance elsewhere.
CLE took 3 players to help out the depth in AAA & AA.

Let tally some stuff up

1. Cleveland - loses 2 in the MLB Portion - Kevin Kelly to the Rockies who have already traded him to the Rays for $$$ considerations.. That's a "fun" way to hustle a few bucks. Nick Enright to the Marlins. Both are "fringy" RHRPs. 1 loss in the AAA portion - RHP Eli Lingos to the Rockies. Colorado ends up taking 2 of the 3 we lost.

2. Cleveland - gains. No pick in the MLB portion, but 3 in the AAA phase - 1st. RHP Bradley Hanner from MIN. 2nd C Michael Berglund from Tampa Bay and 3rd RHP Justin Lewis from Arizon.

Philadelphia takes EIGHT players total, 3 more than any other team - MLB selection of Noah Song and 7 in the AAA portion, being the only team to make picks in the 5th, 6th and 7th rounds respectively.

Pretty uneventful R5. No major losses or adds.

Didn't realize Colorado traded Kelly to Tampa. That is a 95% offer back if we want him (which I assume just for depth this year we do). Tampa's BP were mostly under 4 ERA and have White and Faucher who FG listed as top 30ish prospects in AAA. And, unless they trade for Murphy or someone else, where do they free up space for a FA catcher? Kind of surprised. And, even more surprised they passed on Battenfield for Kelly ... tells you how they value Battenfield and why they traded him, our fools gold.:chuckle:

I’m such a casual fan because it blows my mind the amount of near year round, multiplier pages per day conversation a big group of you have about the Rule 5 Draft. Not a knock, I admire the commitment and passion

I would say the actual draft ends up uneventful, but you have to remember the number of trades and roster decisions that appear to be driven by the rule V draft crunch before getting to the draft.
