Spring Training 2020

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I heard the at-bat/ catch when Mercado got injured in the game today (Thurs 3/6). He was coming in & dove to make inning ending catch. Sounds like he rolled his left hand/ wrist. They commented he was in some pain and didn't move to fast off the field. Then I didn't hear any update on his condition.
Anyone else with an update/ report??

That and relievers are just so volatile in general -- more so than any other position. Relievers can rise and fall at the snap of your fingers. I certainly think Millers innings have caught up to him, but sometimes the wheels just fall off for relievers too.
Except for that scumbag Aroldis Chapman. His arm must be made of iron.

Per 9th inning update: Mercado is day to day w/ left wrist sprain (glove hand). Further evaluation in Goodyear tomorrow..

Is there a video anywhere of him rolling his wrist? Usually I am pretty good at telling injuries if I see them.

Chapman honestly is a generational arm in a sense. Very few guys who throw as hard as he does has any longevity like he has. We see a bunch of guys over the years hit 100, but I feel like very few make it to 30 in the pros cause of the stress on their body throwing like that does.

Sorry sportscoach, only info I have is from hearing the game online & via tweets from Mandy Bell...

Edit/ correction - There a video (no sound) via the MLB website. Noticed the video link over at MLBTR..
Mercado laid out to catch a shallow fly in center field and immediately came up clutching his wrist (video link). He immediately exited the game in obvious pain. The Athletic’s Jason Lloyd tweets that Mercado will be evaluated by hand specialist Dr. Thomas Graham, and an update will likely be provided tomorrow.

At least he got one last payday before this happened. He was probably one of my favorites all time in the short amount of time he was here. Dude was fucking legendary in that WS run.
I drank an absurd amount of Miller Lite that season.

Pour one out for the big homie!

Mid-season form.

Except he really isn't stretched out yet and could only go 4 innings (and should only at this point)

He might win the Cy Young this year, of course that is if Clevinger doesn't.

Does it seem like there has been little progress made so far this spring?

Do we know anything more than we did in January? Have ANY questions been answered?

There are only twelve days left until opening day.

What questions do we have? I'm being honest here.

Outside of health-related issues, there are very few spots up for grabs.

IMO the position players expected to do well have done so....Berto, Frankie, Jose, Carlos, Hernandez, and Reyes. Mercado and Deshields have been OK. Luplow is penciled in at least as a platoon bat, and does have a HR vs a righty.

Arroyo and Freeman have looked good with a bat, but Arroyos glove looks like it's made of iron.

All those guys look pretty much as advertised, but the question marks look more like DFAs than answers.

Zimmer, Bauers, Allen, Domingo, Chang. Only Bradley has looked surprisingly good.

It seems to me that on the player side, we know no more than we did in February.

For regulars who have little to prove, ST is only about getting ready. But for the question marks, ST production, or st least improvement, is vital. I dont see either from anybody, but Bradley.

Usually, it wouldn't matter much after a week in March. But the early opener changes things.

On the pitching side, the loss of Kluber hurts a lot. Clevs injury, and Cookies sore elbow (probably not a big deal, but it sets his time table back again) put the opening day rotation in disarray.

Outside of Hand, Wittgren, Oliver, and Karinchak, who are the other four in the pen?

The arms with some MLB experience...Cimber, Hoyt, Wood, Leone...haven't looked really good, and only Leone has much of a track record.

Things can change for relievers in two weeks, but....

For the first time in years, with two weeks to go, I'm uncomfortable with the look of this roster.

Usually, we have players and pitchers kicking at the door with their play. This year I only see one in Bradley.

I agree with Derek there isnt a ton of questions on the team. Just really the final spots on the roster which often times change during the season anyways.

Freeman the radio announcers are like should be on the roster. Arroyo is pressing to much on defense. His minor league numbers state he is a solid defensive guy so he needs to relax out there.

Once we signed Hernandez, I didn't think Chang would be on the roster this season baring injuries and I felt Bauers to start the season would be on the roster over Bradley since he can play more than one position. Santana to start the season is a lock on the roster regardless of what he is doing, but like Hanley last season, if he isn't doing well could be cut/outrighted. Zimmer and Allen, neither has done much to prove to be on the big league club. To me that is the question mark, that lefty/guy to hit the righties in the OF.

The bullpen like last season will set itself. From what we can tell there isnt winners but from coaching side I am guessing they already have guys who are leading. I think one guys who hasn't been talked about is Maton.

I am not super worried since it feels like we are debating the last spots on the roster and not the core guys. The core guys are strong so I dont worry about the last few spots who are support guys.

I apologize for sounding redundant, but I'm just not sure what we were supposed to know right now.

The position player roster has about 11 or 12 locks and then we're looking at a Freeman/Arroyo battle for utility. I'd like to see Bradley get a shot, but that seems unlikely to happen coming out of camp.

You listed Hand, Wittgren, Perez, and Karinchak, but Cimber and Wood are likely locks too, and Maton seems like a logical choice as well. Hoyt probably makes it as well, but those last few pen slots are so fluid it doesn't really matter.
