The Chubb-Hub Yardage Delivery Service

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
On a more lighthearted note, I've been having a conversation in a group chat. My stance is that Nick Chubb is the best RB in the NFL. My reasons are as follows:
-hes 6th in the NFL in rushing, despite missing 4 games
-hes got the most 20yd runs in the NFL
-hes tied for most 40yd runs in the NFL
-he averages 4yd AFTER CONTACT for his career
-he leads the NFL in most yards over expected (an NFL-commissioned stay)
-he was 2nd in rushing in the NFL with a shit line and even shittier coach/system
-The Browns are infinitely improved as a team when he plays (6-1, 199yds rushing, etc) vs when he doesn't (2-2, 95yds rushing, etc)

So, the question is, where do you rank Chubb among running backs in the NFL?

ETA-I should clarify that its the totality of these things that makes him the best to me. Any *one* is impressive, but *all* of them are pretty undeniably great.

Pure runner, probably first, maybe 2nd, but probably first.

Over all backs? Receiving included? Maybe 3rd.

Now Hunt is a top 3 Receiving back, so the combo is almost too perfect, lol.

I feel very similar. And it’s not that Nick isn’t a great rec back, it’s just that he doesn’t do it enough to be considered.

He’s still best running back with the ball in his hands, full stop.

Henry is pretty good.

McCaffrey and Kamora are better all around backs. Depends on your system. If Hunt wasnt here, i still refer Chubb because we dont throw to the rb as much as Carolina or Saints and Hunt is every bit the receiver of those 2. We use our tight ends more plus actually run the ball a bit more too.

If we aren’t paying Chubb, the main guy who has literally carried the offense, then what are we doing at RB? Are we paying Hunt? I hate to break it to you, but if Hunt has a good year next year and it’s clear the Browns aren’t paying Chubb, Hunt has all the leverage in the world to demand a contract that might be in the ball park of what Chubb wants.Hunt’s going to look to get paid, and whether it’s from us or someone else, he’s going to get it.

So if we aren’t paying Chubb, I’m assuming we’re going to have to use a 2nd on an RB either this year or next.

To be honest with the way we’re playing on offense and the way we’re winning, I think right now the only way the Browns can afford to not pay Chubb is if Baker takes a fairly big step forward as a QB and can shoulder more of the load on offense, or we come up with a replacement for Baker that can. Otherwise, we’re removing our best offensive player and trying to turn the keys over to Baker who may or may not become the type of QB that can carry an offense.

If we’re going to give Chubb in extension we might be better off trading Hunt this offseason for a pick or defensive player and taking a pass catching RB in the 2nd or 3rd round. If we’re paying Chubb, we aren’t going to also be able to pay Hunt.

So much amazing talent at RB in this league. Obviously CMC, Henry, Chubb, and Cook are up there. I've always been very high on Kamara myself, and then a healthy Saquon gets some consideration in this group as well (though I think he's a tad bit overrated). Lots more dudes out there too.

I think the one thing we look at with Chubb is consistency. He puts a good game together every week. And even if he is struggling early in the game, you know you have to keep giving him the ball because he will eventually break one. I see some of the other backs and they may be more explosive, bigger or faster, but they don't always find the hole and break tackles as consistently as Chubb.

I agree with you, he’s #1 for me. There’s not a back I would rather have

I just don’t think Barkley is in the same league as Chubb. I think the draft hype tint tends to last on these guys for a while. Leonard Fournette was pretty garbage his whole career but up until he was cut for some reason people continued to rank him highly.

Barkley is better than Fournette but his talent is greatly exaggerated imo because it lends well to highlight reels more so than consistent winning

I think you also have to consider that he's on a trash team with a bad line and still put up pretty fantastic numbers.

Chubb was still good last year despite our issues, but behind a good offensive line he looks like a world beater. Situation matters. Put Barkley behind our line and competent coaching and I bet he looks a hell of a lot better than he did running for his life when the line collapsed on him damn near every down in New York.

We are 6-1 with Chubb?!? You don’t want to see us in the playoffs.
