Shit, just name them the Cleveland Lindors if it keeps Frankie here for another decade

I don’t get the Spiders love, like the Barons, Captains are good too.

Commodores is my suggestion. Named after Commodore Perry and the battle of Lake Erie. It is historical, doesn't sound weak, and Feller joined the Navy mid career... Cleveland already has a beer and monument of him.

Actually this is legitimately not bad at all. You have a great post for once! Lol (messing with ya)

I mean there is nothing wrongs with using the History of Cleveland to pick a name. If Perry doesn't win that battle then Cleveland likely would have not been in the US like it was.

I think going with a historical name would he great. My two personal favorites are Spiders and Forest Citys. Hell, go full soccer style and name them the Forest City Baseball Club.

Naming them the Buckeyes would be totally desperate and get them slaughtered in the media.

Forest City though could be a good idea, but they are within the community already in a way for soccer. So that one would be out.

Captains - tie to Great Lakes

Commodores - tie to Great Lakes

Barons - tie to Cleveland Sports history

Spiders - tie to past team name

Satchels - honor Satchel Paige and the Negro Leagues with the name and an MLB initiative to create more fields and developmental pipeline in urban areas

Cure - ties to Cleveland Clinic, beat the curse, and satisfy the massive Goth/baseball crossover demographic

Satchels would be loved by all the sports history buffs, but the new generations not knowing Satchel Paige, would likely think of the bags and not of a great player so that may not be a good idea.

I like were you are going with Cures, but i think we need to think of something else. Clerics would represent the wrong thing in peoples minds, but something thats strong but represents healing would be cool.

Paladins are strong and stout and are supposed to be great protectors, dont mind that idea. General Moses Cleaveland was the founder of the area, but i am not sue if Generals would work.

Naps or Lindors would be interesting, but i doubt it would work right.

My list would be:
Spiders
Tribe
Iroquois (if the Native American group would agree)
Commodores

They already disposed of the logo. Now the name? "Redskins" is definitely an offensive racial slur. But is "Indians" a racial slur? How about "Braves", "Chiefs", and "Warriors"? Aren't those names like "Celtics"? They designate a group of people without denigrating them. Is "Indians" considered denigrating?

I suppose you would have to poll Native Americans to see if they find the name "Indians" offensive.

As for the statement, that is a great example of saying nothing while appearing to do the right thing. They are committed to "engaging our community and appropriate stakeholders (who are the "appropriate stakeholders?) to determine the best path forward".

Please. All they're saying is they're willing to discuss it. I don't think there are many Native Americans in Cleveland, but there are a lot of 2nd, 3rd, and 4th generation Indians fans who will have a lot to say. They're definitely leaving the door open to keeping the name after "engaging the community" and finding out the community wants to keep the name (surprise, surprise).

If they decide to change the name I would suggest the Cleveland Schmindians. Or maybe the Rocks. Cleveland Rocks. Think of the headline possibilities. "Rocks win in a landslide". "Rocks crushed by Twins".

Or Cleveland Bison. The bison is a noble animal that is affiliated closely with Native Americans. It's strong, fast and powerful (but not that smart). We could even have one that sprints around before games like the University of Colorado buffalo mascot.

Commodores is my pick.

That said, I grew up in the city named after Commodore Perry, so I'm biased.

EDIT: I'm also not opposed to using the name of a tribe or just being the Cleveland Tribe. My personal issue with 'Indians' isn't that it's offensive so much as it's just culturally incorrect. Especially without Chief Wahoo around, we're going to get to a point culturally where 'Indian' and 'Native American' are less and less synonymous.

Will be an interesting situation going forward. dont come out with that statement after the Redskins statement and not change the name, right?

Spiders or Buckeyes- all else is a massive bust for me. I actually rank Buckeyes ahead, because if we’ve already wore Buckeye jerseys IRL.

nay to Buckeyes or tribe
indifferent to spiders
pro Guardians or commadores

How about Midges?

Gulls?

After all, both have had a hand, or wing, in Tribe victories.

In their inaugural American League season they were nicknamed the Cleveland Blues.
I'm not saying it's their best choice, but it Is historically accurate.

(For the record, they played .397 ball as the Blues)
