The Restaurant Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Reviving this thread. Upscale Mexican food can be hit or miss for me, but my wife and I have been very impressed with Avo in Ohio City. They recently opened up in the old Bakersfield location.

Margs are good and not filled to the brim with ice, great roasted roja salsa and the tacos have thick homemade corn tortillas. The shrimp guac is a great appetizer as well.

The ownership owns Char Whiskey Bar in Rocky River and they're going into the old Greenhouse Tavern with another concept. One of the waiters at Avo mentioned it being shareables and small plates.

Not really sure where to put this, but I'm thinking of going to Little Italy's Feast of the Assumption this weekend. Has anybody been before? Any parking tips?

It's a fun time. Some great food. A real pain in the dick to park. Hope your parallel parking skills are on point.

Hands down the summer event I miss the most.

If there’s a line, eat there. You must also eat one sausage and peppers on pizza. It’s a requirement. You must also gamble in the aisle next to the church.

Glad to hear it's a worthwhile event- I'm looking forward to it. I've never actually been to Little Italy before, so I'm excited to sample food from a few places and check out the bakeries.

Speaking of Little Italy, Home Bistro is a new-ish spot that’s been around for just about the last year. Had a chance to eat there a couple weeks ago and it was fantastic. The owners owned a place with the same name in the Boystown neighborhood of Chicago. Don’t go in expecting Italian but do expect really delicious New American food.

I'd rather not drive there at all. The Feast is a total party! Uber or RTA Rapid will work just fine.

My wife just told me Min Ahn is closing. Owners supposedly sold the restaurant and recipes. Guess new owners are going to remodel and open new after the fall.

We ended up going to the Feast of the Assumption on Thursday night as opposed to Sunday. I don't know if the rain earlier in the day scared people away, or if Thursday is always more lightly attended, but I think we made the right move. I had no trouble parking and things were crowded and very festive, but not uncomfortable.

We got cavatelli from Trattoria's, eggplant parm and an order of mussels from Mia Bella and an Italian sausage from Angelo's Nido. Plus a ton of baked goods from Presti's and Corbo's bakeries. I loved the new Rocky Calavito statue as well. What a cool area of Cleveland.

So for w/e Hilliard has a pretty significant amount of Mediterranean/Mid-Eastern restaurant choices and I love them all.

Just found the best one so far.

The Crazy Greek II. If you happen to be in Hilliard, go. They have a bar to get a drink if you'd like. The inside, while small, has this honestly incredible hand-painted decor all the way around the walls that had to take quite a while.

And the food is all good. I recommend whatever meat you try, to ask them to do it "spicy." I don't know what herbs they use to make things spicy, but it's very good and unique.

Big recommend for Cloak & Dagger in Tremont. Cocktail bar with a 100% vegan menu. I’m far from vegan but the food was excellent. Had sweet & sour seitan pork over sushi rice with kimchi pickled cucumbers, green onions and toasted sesame. Wife had fried polenta with a ragu of mushrooms, tomatoes, shallots and basil. They also have killer fries with house-made ketchup.

That place looks super cool. My wife and I need to make it out there.
