The "What are you playing now?" Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
So over the last couple of months I've picked up a series x (not so patiently awaiting starfield), a ps5 and a switch... so far all I've got is zelda: botw and miles morales. Been out of the console loop for a while, except for nba2k... wide question, but are there any big time exclusives I should get/be looking for?
I haven't touched my PS5 in months, but I enjoyed Horizon Forbidden West, Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart, and Ghost of Tsushima when they came out. Never got into Demon's Souls, but it is highly reviewed. Gran Turismo 7 if your into sim style racing. Maybe even Stray(the cat game), but that one was not for me.

I’ve got all three, but rarely play the Series X. Here’s what I’ve got for the PS5 though:

God of War: Ragnarok in November. Play the one that came out a few years ago first if you haven’t already.

If you’ve never played The Last of Us, the remake/remaster is coming out tomorrow and by all early accounts is breathtaking.

The Horizon (Zero Dawn and Forbidden West) games are really good, although the first one is probably a little bit better in my opinion.

They fixed a lot of what was wrong with Gran Turismo 7 at launch, but I’d still wait for a sale.

Ghost of Tsushima is one of the best exclusives out there for any console if you haven’t played it yet.

The Demons Souls remake was phenomenal and is not as difficult as other Soulsborne games in my opinion.

I’m probably forgetting some others, but there’s a ton there to get you started. Happy gaming!

I own all 3 as well and I’ll agree with most of what everybody else is saying. I do most of my console gaming on Xbox though, as Game Pass is the best deal in gaming right now. Exclusives for both consoles are a tad light at the moment, but if you factor in last gen games PS5 has more true exclusive options.

I suspect Xbox/Microsoft will be punching back starting in 2023, though, as their first party machine starts pumping out the big guns. Starfield, Redfall, Fable, Perfect Dark, Outer Worlds 2, Avowed, inXile’s Project Cobalt, and many more first party coming over the next few years, all day one game pass. Not to mention all the 3rd party titles.

Gaming is such a cheap hobby in all honesty, compared to most stuff. It’s why I prefer to just have access to everything each gen.

I saw that MLB The Show 22 came out for Switch this year. Got everything set up to play it on Yuzu (PC emulator) and realized that it doesn't run.

Then I realized the xbox game pass I've had let's me play Xbox console games on pc. Been playing MLB The Show all day. First time I've ever used a game streaming service. Usually I stay away because I always have beefy hardware to run things locally.

Project Zomboid is one of the best survival games I've ever played, maybe the best.

Agreed.

Issue I have is that it doesn't support the resolution of my display. I have a big screen with big res... it's unplayable now. So frustrating.

Playing The Last Of Us (PS5 version) for the first time ever and I understand the hype now.
One of my all time favorites, but I can't justify the price tag on a remastered/updated version of a 9-year-old game. I might check it out once it goes on sale during the holiday season.

Soul Hackers 2 for me. Gotta get my shin megami tensei fix.
How is this? Thinking of picking it up soon. I got a ton of play time out of Persona 5, and this seems to be pretty similar.

More mainline SMT game rather than Persona.

Mainline SMTs are about the demons and dungeon crawling with the social stuff as an added mechanic where Persona focused more on the social stuff and dungeon crawling.

I know it sounds dumb to say that, but as longtime shin megami fan, there's a noticeable difference.

Mainline games focus more on the overall story arc where Persona focuses more on the character stories/interaction.

I'm not super far into it, more or less have just done the very first section of side quests before moving on, and just now opened the place where you fuse demons (circus in this game)

I'm digging the beginning of the story so far, and being fair, never played the first Soul Hackers. It's still early and I'm hoping for killer writing to make up for what feels like a stripped down demon system.

It's a standard SMT grindfest with super repetitive gameplay. But as of now, it feels a little lacking and shallow.

Well good to know since I did pick up Soul Hackers 2 myself, but I am sure you could expect that a bit lol

Persona 5 (especially the Royal version) has to go down as a top 10 RPG, in general, so anything afterwards is just gonna be hard to compare to it.

Actually you're better off going with Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel series, if you are looking for something closer to Persona 5. There is 4 games with that one and more legend of hero games on steam and more coming out. I'd suggest pick up Legend of Heroes Cold Steel and see if you like it. Regular edition is like 26 bucks on Amazon (for the ps4), the limited is like 180 (and that limited is like 40-50 as a digital copy in the store. It's just extra outfits and training options, nothing but small side scenes story wise).

I think they're all on the Switch as well--but only the main game's 3 and 4 are in English?

For those of you who loved Elden Ring, you should give Stephen King's new novel, Fairy Tale, a look. The fantasy world he's created (note: takes a good third of the book to get to it) feels inspired by the Lands Between, and there's even a character named Elden.

I think this is the best trailer I've ever seen. Just 3-4 moments of sheer epic-ness. No other game can match the scale.
