Trade Deadline Day - 2020

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Seems like a lot of people are really high on Cantillo, as he had a velo spike recently. Which is good, because I've seen that he had a sort of fringe to weak fast ball.

I hate this trade. Naylor may help some but is far from a “stud outfielder”. Hedges is another catcher who can’t hit, we’ve cornered the market on those. Arias looks possibly very good, but so do Tyler Freeman, Brayan Rocchio, Aaron Bracho, Jose Fermin, Angel Martinez, etc. Arias is at least two years away, maybe three. Miller adds to the glut of middle infielder guys. Quantrill was converted to the pen this year. Cantillo is promising but, again, is at least two or three years away. We got ten cents on the dollar for Clevinger.

Our immediate help is Naylor. Now we count on Triston McKenzie, fresh off two starts in two years, to fill Clevinger’s shoes.

Is there any word on Plesac or what the plan with him is? Was this a wake up call sent his way?

So Naylor in left, Naquin/Luplow platoon in right. Leon and and Domingo released? Any chance we go after a centerfielder to make Deshields our 4th OF?

Like it or not, Clevinger was on his way out. Wasn’t he talked about last season or early offseason as possibly moving on?
Shouldn’t surprise anyone and this was probably our best offer.

If Boston is willing to eat the rest of Jackie Bradley Jr's salary for this year, then I think there's a strong chance he could be playing CF for us.
Starling would be perfect, but I'm not sure the Indians will be willing to pay his price tag for the remainder of this season. They could decline his option for next season, but Arizona would want trade value equivalent to the rest of this year and next for him.

This seems needlessly negative.

Naylor is fine. He's a league average player at 23, which is pretty good if he grows into that role. I don't love Hedges but he's a better defender than Leon. One can never have enough good SS. Miller is probably the best hitter of the bunch, outside of Hernandez and Cantillo is a lotto ticket IMO.

Quantrill I do not understand why he was converted. He's been good in the pen this year, but I think his future is as a starter. Looks a lot like Plesac to me.

I stole this from mlbtraderumor commentor ... but I thought this would be a huge haul ... ridiculous return ... it's not that ... I am working on something .. but I don't like it from Rule 5 perspective come next year ... I will show why under future needs ... Also, we can only add 1 more player to our 60 man pool before we lose good people (had 55 at BOY - 2 in Clev and Allen + 6 here -- assume all are on 60 pool or would be PTBNL.

BTV rates this trade as fair, with a total estimated value of $38.9M going to SD and $34.6M going to CLE. However, Arias is Rule 5-eligible, so once CLE adds him to the 40, his value will increase, closing that gap to $38.0M going to CLE.

When did Arias sign? This is year four in the minors for him. He shouldn't become Rule 5 eligible until after year 5 correct?

Vid up on CBS Sportsline calling the return for the Indians "disappointing". Jim Bowden's comments. He's all over the SD GMs jock. Mentioned no Petino or Abrams in return. Likes Cantillo and the quantity but doesn't think this helps us in 2020.

I think those are Plesac's feet in those shoes.

Wouldn't be surprised if Naylor, at his listed weight, is moved to 1B in 2021 if they opt to decline Santana's option and aren't able to bring him back cheaper.

Naylor's listed at 5'11" 250.

Terrible trade. I get it the dude was a lying, shithead, tea mate but they could've gotten more, especially if they held him back for an extra year of service time. What does it matter though, these cheap bastards weren't going pay him anyways so it was only matter time till the outcome was the same.

I think it's clear that this is disappointing.

It's disappointing that Clevinger hasn't been able to stay healthy during his career, so that health risk dings his value.

It's disappointing that we have to trade Clevinger during the year of corona, which is depressing everyone's trade value.

It's disappointing that Clevinger acted like a bonehead to even further lower his trade value, and lower the leverage our organization had.

It's a great job to get him moved for an acceptable package in this climate. I'm not going to pretend to know prospects well enough to judge any of the guys we got back. I'm fairly certain this was the max value we could have gotten for Clevinger--otherwise we wouldn't have made the deal.

All-in-all, we moved an oft-injured thrower with a special arm and got a haul back. I'm excited for Naylor--I think he slots in immediately as an everyday corner OF for us. I wish Sunshine the best on the Padres.

Roster resources say the Rule 5 roster date is Miller Dec 21, Arias Dec 20 and Cantillo Dec 21 .... my point in another post that I will try to update is we have a lot of good talent coming Due in 2021 as that is our Valera, Bracho and Rocchio year ... I said in Future Needs thread that we needed 2-1 type trades for Lindor and Clevinger due to this .... and we did 6-2 and I was assuming Allen would be dumped at that after next year. So, we are going to lose players potentially ... good players .... Give me an hour and I show how it will work. Again ... needed Quality not Quantity ...
