Trade Deadline Day - 2020

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Domingo Santana DFA as a result of adding the former Padres. The Tribe took a reasonable gamble on Santana, but he never got it going at the plate...our defense in the OF just improved, too.

Weird moves for Miami
Apparently saying they'll not pick up his 12.5 M option....seems like an odd thing to say/do in the moment. Have to check the reporting on that.

Moving Villar saved them enough $ to bring in Marte?

I don't really see how anyone can say this trade makes the Indians better in 2020.

It may very well make them better in 2021 and beyond, perhaps significantly so, but unless Naylor has an unexpected breakout with the change of scenery, the Indians are a worse team right now than they were yesterday for this 2020.

Still a few hours to go though.

The Indians are gambling a bit. But I have a hunch they feel Naylor can hit better than who they currently have plus now, if we can decline Santana's option and if he doesnt resign, we have a 1B replacement as well.

As I said in another thread, Hernandez, Santana and Lindor all easily could be gone next season. Now we have Naylor, Bradley and Bauers as our 1B competition. Adding Miller (Who would have been at AAA this season) into the INF mix, we have more talent to compete for the everyday spots.

Our future shortstop is more likely to be Brayan Rocchio. Freeman at 2B.

I don't know Marty. Arias is one helluva prospect. Probably our #1 now and he's not too far off.

If you recall.. back when Lindor was first drafted... it was thought he would certainly have the glove, range and arm to play SS at the highest level of Baseball.. The question was whether he would be able to hit & hit with some power.. At under 6 foot and barely over 170 pounds.. he was a slap hitting SS with a slick glove.. We found out that Lindor can hit.. hit for both average and power..

Fast forward to the today.. Gabriel Arias was drafted as a 17 year old.. just at 6 foot or a wee bit above that and maybe 170 pounds.. today.. he is bigger, stronger and faster than Lindor (6'1" and over 200 pounds). Arias is big enough and has put on enough muscle that he may be considered for 3B.. Additionally, what Arias does bring is a pedigree that says this is the slickest fielding prospect in MiLB.. He was so well thought of.. he was moved to full season ball and reached A+ in his age 19 year.. Says this could become a special kind of player.. just like the guy currently playing the spot..

Thoughts..?
