2015 MLB Draft Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
The Pirates took Newman in the first round and Kramer in the second.

Aiken agreed to $6.5M before the elbow issue was discovered. Astros offered him a reduced $3.1M to sign and he declined. I believe he'll get more than that from the Indians-- say 3.2-3.5M? Slot value is $2,393,600.

McKenzie will probably be slightly under-slot. His slot value is $1,468,400.

Hillman will probably get a shade over-slot. His slot value is $1,041,900.

The next few picks carry signing bonus slots of:
3rd round ($617,100)
4th round ($452,400)
5th round ($338,700)
6th round ($253,700)

I expect the Indians to draft a Joey Wendle ($10,000 signing bonus) or two so they can get some breathing room in their bonus pool.

How far away is Frazier?

A few years at least, if at all.

I get what Curt is saying, but what exactly does it mean? Can these guys be re-drafted?

If they decide to attend college, yes. Their draft status would make that less likely now. The Indians have proven they will go after solid college commitments.

Indians selected Triston McKenzie with the 42nd pick.

Big, projectable high school RHP from Florida.

Indians may have their hands full signing him, another Vandy commit they'll try to steal away (Sheffield LY).

Seems as though they're really going for helium in this draft, McKenzie can really turn into something special after he puts some weight on/gets older.

Oh that will be easy- since Aiken is injured, the Indians can force him to sign for less than the slot and use the savings to si- oh wait...

They'll find the money- the Tribe seems to draft guys they feel they can sign. Although I have to wonder if Indians in the process become enemy no 1 of the Vanderbilt baseball staff... That would be two stud pitching recruits stolen in b2b years (Sheffield last year).

WOW

This is such an anti-Indians draft, it's hard to believe.

The upside on these three arms is ridiculous.
Have to wonder if this isn't a hedge on Triston...

...huh. Guess not. Wow.

Now watch one of them blow a finger out and retire, another will smoke his shoulder in season 1 and the last will blossom after being dealt for a utility guy due to control issues #thatssoCleveland #cantcomeupwithacheapdolanzjoke

What was the timetable on Aiken if he didn't get injured and signed with the Astros?

Quick.

Had good command, mechanics and feel with four workable pitches. Guys like him generally fly through the system.

Early guess is they send him to extended spring training next year and he'll open up with Arizona or Mahoning Valley.

Uh, who knows? He was pretty polished for a high school arm so he had potential to move quickly but it would have depended on how he did. Can't really whittle down the ETA until you see how a guy does in pro ball. As of now his ETA is stretched out since he just had TJ 3 months ago.

Thought I would stop in here, twitter seems to agree with most of you. Unconventional approach and that the Indians really nailed it.

Are there any glaring needs in the Minors right now that we can expect the Indians to attack going in this draft?

Indians just took 2B/3B Mark Mathias out of Cal Poly San Luis Obispo.

Probably a below slot guy, but has a good right handed bat. Battling back from a labrum injury this season, but probably profiles at 2B or 3B.

He may have the stick to stay at 3B, he keeps growing and may develop enough power there.

He's going to climb through the minors on his bat alone.
