Andy Marte...do I dare say he is ready?

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
If by picking it up you mean he has a .292 SLUG, then yes, I suppose he is.

He's nothing more than a singles hitter anymore. God knows where that power has gone.

Andy Marte is on a mission to prove me a douchebag....

Well, actually...that's not hard, but still...

Right. Matter of fact; a case can be made to put him at 3rd base and LaPorta at 1st for the rest of the year. We have more young players who will join the team in a few days, and I'm not sure we need Peralta playing 3rd to the detriment of the young kids. Matter of fact; isn't it getting kind of boring watching Peralta suck up the field for the first two months of EACH year, and then catching fire after the team is out of contention? Why not trade this guy when his value is at it's peak?.... whatever the word "peak" means as it pertains to him. :) I really do not want another year seeing Peralta do what he does. It's another case of doing the same thing in hopes of seeing a different outcome.

Good points about Peralta but here's something to think about.

Cleveland Indians trend: sucking the first half of the year, picking it up second half.

Ja-honny Peralta trend: sucking the first half of the year, picking it up second half.

The constant: Eric Wedge

Who's to say finally getting rid of Wedge wouldn't end the same problems with Peralta that the team as a whole seems to have?

I would release Peralta or trade him for a bag of potato chips, to be honest. I really would. Make some room. Put Marte at fkin 3rd already.

I suppose the only problem with Marte getting hot lately is that it could be very similar to the Johnny P situation. Who knows if he can do this when he is a starter and has the pressure on in the first half, I mean this team is pressure free right now, Wedge and Peralta's specialty.

Yea, exactly. Whatever, let someone warm the 3B chair till Chisenhall is ready.

but then whats the problem?

bounce peralta, even if marte is another version of Peralta, he's still a cheaper version

Maybe, but IMO, Marte is facing the pressure of being permanantly relegated to the minors. Even though the team is not going anywhere this year, he is playing for his future. Unlike Peralta, who is established in the bigs.

Peralta is established in the bigs in the same way a pile of dung is established in the farmer's field.

Peralta is making 4.6 million next year. For a team looking to shed apyroll, having a guy with 20+ HR potential for 4.6 is a steal.

There is a club option for 7 million in 2011, and I doubt the Indians pick that up. He could very easily be traded this offseason, or at the deadline next year. But releasing him woul be moronic.

Then trade him for the bag of potato chips. Who gives a fuck at this point? All his damage comes when we're out of it anyways, might as well try and get something for him or make room for young guys with more potential.

Why would you dump Peralta to open up a spot for Marte when either 1B or LF are wide open? Peralta is making plays at 3B and doesn't have the range deficiencies at 3B that he had at SS. He is also hitting better while acclimating to a new position. Some folks' abnormal and unfounded dislike of a player is affecting their rational decision making here. :stick:;) Average or not at 3B, Peralta is still better than many clubs have at the position and 'league average' isn't a bad thing. You don't need stars at every position, just solid production. A bad thing was Josh Barfield, or David Dellucci. Need to keep some perspective here.

Let's wait for Marte to finish the year here and show if he can hit for power consistently. Same goes for Chisenhall- we should see him to hit at AA and AAA before we annoint him as the future. Even the best prospects can stall, just look at Alex Gordon.

Marte has looked much better as of late and is starting to mash mistakes- that HR last night was a Camden gift. It would have been off the wall at best in many other parks and possibly caught if the left field gap was deeper and the OF positioned accordingly but he definitely hit a mistake. It was a high inside fastball that he was able to turn on; he didn't get the meat of the bat on it but still hit it 370+ feet (feel free to correct me on the alleys in Camden, I know they are short). He is showing some positive signs, we just have to continue to evaluate him from here on out.

Say what you want about PEralta, but you just don't trade a guy like that for nothing. yes, he's definitely a 2nd half player, but so what. We should have enough power in this lineup to make up for his inconsistencies...and we do. It was pitching that destroyed us this year.

We've scored the 7th most runs in MLB, 5th most in the AL, (NYY, LA, Boston, Tampa, Indians).
We've given up the 3rd most runs in all of baseball, 2nd most in the AL (Washington, Baltimore, Indians, KC, San Diego).

Then put him at DH- oh wait we have a HAFNER logjam at DH.

We're just in a terrible position I think with two guys I am running out of patience for, Peralta and Hafner. I'm just about done with both of them. Sorry if I sound harsh on Peralta but I bought into him hook, line, and sinker after last season and thought he'd finally figured out how to do it consistently.

Believe me, I get really frustrated with Peralta. He's certainly not untouchable by any means, but he is a worthy player.
