Brendan Haywood's Trade Exception

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Cavs need "rim protector"

Haywood is "rim protector"

Any reason he isn't getting some time? I am well aware that he is not the same player he used to be, but, he is on our roster.

Because he has cement in his shoes and would get killed on pick and rolls.

Is Haywood a few healthy feet away from walking himself to the glue factory or what's his story? We obviously need a big guy to stand in the paint and knock guys on their ass once they blow by Kyrie and Love, couldn't he atleast fill that role for us? If old bones Ben Wallace could do it for us in 2010 I would imagine Haywood could be serviceable.

We don't need a 5th option on offense. Actually, I'd prefer for our center not to be a focal point of the offense because I've seen enough designed plays for Andy to last the rest of the season thus far.

Haywood just looks like the slowest player ever on the floor. It's like watching Robert Parish try to run up and down the floor in his stint with the Bulls.... but even slower. He's a liability against the pick and roll too.

However...

I would like to see Haywood get a few minutes a night. Have him fill the role of enforcer. Basketball's version of a goon. Just have out there to knock the shit out of a player or two each game.

7 points, 3 rebounds in 8 minutes of action tonight.

About the only positive I took from this game. He looked mobile and active and did score on some of Detroit's first stringers since Van Gundy left them in there until there was like three minutes left.

He actually got down the floor pretty quickly that one time Dion turned it over trying to get it to him.

I say play him more. Our D right now is just embarrassing and we need size. Haywood if nothing else will hammer people with hard fouls and can deter shots at the rim.

Given the dribble penetration we are regularly giving up, having that presence could make a big difference even with his flaws.

Should've been integrating him from the beginning, even if he was just a placeholder to our eventual rim protector. It would've helped on multiple fronts. Wasted opportunity all around.

Guess Blatt didn't research his more-than-obvious injury history. (Andy's)

Sooner or later, gotta start consistently letting Haywood play himself into game shape. He looked pretty good, though out of shape, in the few games he was legitimately involved in a few weeks ago.

I've never understood the resistance to playing him. He is a really tall person! He stands near the basket! He raises his hands over his head! Automatically then a huge improvement to our defense.

If Blatt was playing James Jones substantial minutes and letting Delly lead the offense in closing out games, then what possible objection could there be to playing Haywood for a few minutes a game. Can't be athleticism.

Injury would prevent his contract being traded next summer? Griffin prob views him strictly as the trade chip he is. I didn't get it either until I thought about it. I could be wrong tho.

The only risk that I can see is another injury that would lead to his retirement. That would kill the huge trade chip.

Dude may retire anyway. Why not give him 10 mins a night?
