Browns need Troy Smith!

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
we will be drafting pretty high in the 1st round and I dotn think you can draft a guard that high

I like Bently Shafer Tucker and Butler....but our guards suck profusly....Our draft needs are as following

1st round needs to be the best player that is a dlineman or an RB like Peterson....

2 and 3rd need to be interior o lineman

the rest need to be d lineman and defensive backs

If we have the #1 draft pick in the whole draft would u guys take a OL? what about quinn?

Joe Thomas???

what happens if we stack up on OL in the draft. and the browns 2007 OL is sweet as hell.

That'd be great and we are set for the future.

oppps but we have no RB or QB. damn we are back to square 1.

There's still FA and we could get someone via trade.. But if our O-Line is "sweet as hell" like you say, we shouldn't have a problem moving the ball, regardless who we put behind the line..

Just think about this.. If LJ Shelton, Joe Andruzzi, Jeff Faine, Cosey Coleman and Ryan Tucker produced a 1,000 yard back in Rueben Droughns then I think a "sweet as hell" line could produce the same.

I wouldnt mind drafting Jow THomas but it doesnt solve our interior line problem

defensive backs

We're actually pretty set their George..

Daven Holley, Daylon McCutcheon, Gary Baxter and Leigh Bodden will be our top 4 corners with Jereme Perry, DeMario Minter and Ralph Brown being their backups.. That's a VERY good CB crew with Leigh being one of the best corners in the league and Daylon a good nickel back...

Our Safeties are pretty good too with Sean Jones being a pro-bowl caliber guy, and Brodney Pool providing a solid backup to either spot and Justin Hamilton is fine as the 4th guy behind the safeties..

The big thing in the offseason will be whether we re-sign Brian Russell or not.. If not, I am sure we will acquire a veteran in the FA market to replace him..

So all in all, I really doubt we take a guy in the secondary in the draft.. Our pass defense has been good this year our offense and run defense has been the problem..

Here's the positions, and quantity, of what will be picked come April:

QB: 1 (if we don't pick on up via trade or FA)
RB: 1 (depending on who it is and where we are picking)
WR: 1
OL: 2
DL: 2
LB: 1

Yea, but we get a helluva tackle for the next decade.. Some experts he might of given D'Brick a run for the top tackle in the draft last year.. It also gives us the option to move Kevin Shaffer over to the right side of the line OR move him inside to guard...

ya I wouldnt mind him at LT for the next 10 years

And maybe Tucker or Butler could move inside....or maybe BOTH

Thomas Tucker Bently Butler Schafer would be a much better line than what we have now

just not sure if any of out tackles can move inside

Well, Shaffer is 6'5 320, so he wouldn't need to add/lose any weight.. Shaffer is a pretty athletic and has good lateral quickness to begin with, so I don't see him moving inside being that much of a problem..

Ryan Tucker is 6'6 314, so again size isn't an issue.. I just worry that the aging on him might effect his overall quickness because he didn't have too much to begin with..

Regardless of what we do in the offseason, guys like Kris Dielman and Eric Steinbach need to be our top priorities.

Anyone got an idea of how much we have to spend?

I'm afraid it's not going to be as substantial as years passed...

I read last year that the Cardinals have an estimated 67 million to spend

With this OL L. Tomlinson would not look so good. (He would still be really good, but not as good) Payton Manning would have been injured by now. The Browns need to improve both the O line and the D line! They should start and end the draft and take nothing but linemen. They should sign free agent linemen. They should trade for linemen. Phil Savage should be thinking eating sleeping and shitting LINEMEN. Football is won and lost in the trenches! Make the line great and great things will follow.

It will still take time to build an O line for the long term. The Browns will still be screwed because that hasn't been a priority for them since they came back. Rookie lineman usually have trouble so there probably wouldn't be instant impact there. From now on they have to draft a lineman in the 1st 3-4rounds at the very least every year.

Browns still have a ton of holes to fill. Pretty much any postion could be taken with the #1 pick.

CB could be a trouble spot. Baxter might never come back from his injury and McCutcheon's days as a Brown are probably over.

As far as the original post in this thread. I have no idea about Troy Smith. He's a great college QB but who knows if he can translate to the NFL? He's a risk to draft high but there is the chance he pans out well.

Drafting any QB high is a risk, but I think Smith is about as low risk as you're going to get when it comes to the QB crapshoot. I just don't see this kid being worse than an average NFL QB. That's the floor. Considering that's the ceiling of the Browns current starting QB, I'd take my chances.

That is not to say the Browns don't need help in the trenches. Obviously they do. However, there are 7 draft picks, plus free agency. No reason the Browns can't draft Smith, plus improve both lines.

If the Browns draft Peterson, they will need to invent a new word to properly express the supreme idiocy of that move. Good RBs are a dime a dozen in the NFL. Basically every team has at least one good RB, and many have more than one. The NFL is RB rich. And oh yeah, Cleveland is also one of those teams with a good RB. Droughns may not be the best RB in the league, but there is nothing wrong with him. Put the other peices in place and he will be just fine. RB isn't anywhere near the top of this team's problems.

we need to fill a few postions via the draft....

we should look to get

OL, DL, CB

thats where we need players....but 1st round i dont think you can pass on AD...Droughns is overrated and really isnt that great....AD could be a hall of famer....
