Gotta agree......last what 2 years weve had 2 lotto picks each year? this is tehe 1st year he couldnt get us 2 lotto picks but we still have 2 1sts and he realistically could still get us another lotto pick if Dallas bites. Guy has gotten us assets and has flipped assets weve gotten into BETTER assets/players

Best GM as long as he doesn't get cute in the draft and just takes Noel instead of two worse players :)

Last year, we only had 4 and 17 even after trading up, meaning we only had one lotto pick that year as well. It was only in the 2011 draft that we had two lotto picks.

Was it last year he turned down a trade to get back into the lotto for the GSW pick because he didnt want to give up Andy? Bad move imo if we do that we are not worried about our whole at SF right now or possibly our whooe at Center (either Barnes or Drummond).

I bet you are not saying that if Andy doesn't go down with the the way he was playing and his chemistry with Kyrie. Besides, CG has never discussed details about that and probably never will. That is the way he is. The same people saying that the trade was in the works are probably the same people that reported the Bynum deal was pretty much done. The fact only shows that he is constantly trying to find ways to improve this team for the future. We really have no clue what GSW wanted as well since again, CG does not discuss things to protect the Cavs or the other organization so he does not burn any bridges.

I was onboard with that trade while it was being rumored from numerous insiders so it really didnt have anything to do with him being hurt. I never really bit into the Bynum trade talk because no sources were confirming it only confirming he would play here. Ive been on board to trade Andy for awhile now and I think we have to this year. I dont think hes in our future plans and there are a lot of teams who want him. Shoot I would havr took the Thunder or Twolves rumors for him.

I like what Grant has done, no doubt, and don't have a problem with any of his moves thus far for the most part, but..

I think it's a bit premature to name him the best GM in the league, before we see how we come out of the rebuild.

This off-season will be huge for him, especially since making the postseason is the goal.

I tend to disagree with this. I would have said it a year or two ago, but if we draft Noel, I believe keeping Andy is paramount. The Cavs were already the youngest team in the league last season and were clearly much worse after Andy went down. We lack veteran leadership with any type of playoff experience EXCEPT for Andy.

He has a favorable contract, and we aren't in need of cap space at the moment anyway. Plus, we can't forget that Andy knows Mike Brown's system extremely well, and Brown has always been know to be a gigantic fan of Andy. I believe we need Andy now more than we ever have.

Removing Andy's veteran presence from the team would seriously hinder the development of all of our young players. Andy is the absolute perfect guy to teach Zeller, Thompson, and Noel the intricacies of the Mike Brown defensive scheme.

Andy became far less expendable to me once we brought back Brown and won the #1 pick. If the Cavs want to help develop all these young bigs and make a playoff push this season, they will absolutely need Andy's experience and leadership.

I thought Andy might get moved for a draft pick in the past, but I think now the only way he gets traded is in a larger move that brings back an established player. If the FO's goal is to make a playoff push starting this year, it makes literally zero sense to trade away Andy. I know his injury history, but he won't get moved unless it's for someone who can come and help us this year.

Trade an all star ccaliber player for a draft pick prospect thats hit or miss at best ? no not for a team that wants to improve this season. Trading Andy for anything but all star caliber talent is just not gonna happen just as Grant stated 3 years ago.

Agreed. He seems to have done a decent job shuffling picks and role players around, but until we actually win more than 30 games it is hard to call him the 'best GM in the league.'

Seems like a lot of people are high on Andy around here. A PF/C whos turning 31 who's played in over 70 games only three times I'm his nine year career and has never made an all star game even in his best year. Good player that can contribute to any team that he is on but at his age with his favorable contract I don't see him making it past the all star break and probably doesn't make it past the all star break last year if he doesn't get injured. The I Lu thing helping his case is Mike Brown being back but I still don't see that saving him when the all star break comes around if he isn't injured. CG has done a pretty good job overall but I'm not sold on him yet. I feel there's been a couple instances where he has failed to pull the trigger on some good trades that would have improved the team.

How do you know it was him to backed out or who "failed to pull the trigger" and not the other GM?

And the slight against Andy is a bit extreme, IMO. He's played at an all-star level each of the past 2 seasons before he went down.

What I heard on draft night was that Chris Grant was the guy who offered the Andy trade to GSW in order to grab Barnes when he saw that Barnes lasted that long. However, GSW didn't bite because they were thrilled that he fell so far as well. I was on board with that trade on draft night, but now I'm pretty happy it didn't go through.

Regarding Andy:

Each offseason since LeBron left, I have been of the opinion that you move Andy for a pick in the 12-18 range, but not for a pick past 20.
Especially in hindsight, that bears out. Even with Andy's stellar play last year, we were 5-20 to start the year.
I get that its easy to do in hindsight but reviewing the players who have been taking in the 12-18 range of the 2011 and 2012 drafts(or just beyond) and those projected in 2013 and you have names like Kawhi Leonard, Vucevic, Shumpert, Faried, Harkless, Terrence Jones, Olynyk, Karasev, Adams, Caldwell-Pope.

If Andy were 27-28, I would take him over most of those guys, but given the 80 games played in the last three season, in hindsight, a deal for a pick in that range would have been better.

Now of course, we don't know what, if any, offers where there for Grant to take, so this is not meant as a slam on Chris Grant at all nor as a knock on Andy as a player and person.

Grant is the best GM in the league.

He has orchestrated one of the greatest tank efforts of all time in landing 2 #1 overall picks and 2 #4 picks in a total of 3 drafts. This creation of surplus of young high-level potential talent has never been seen before. Kyrie, Dion, TT, Bennett and Bynum are all 25 and under. Kyrie is a superstar in this league, there has not been a better scoring PG this good since Iverson (and Kyrie is better on offense). Grant's draft skills including Clippers trade to even get Kyrie, drafting Thompson higher than expected, surprising everybody with Dion, and now Bennett. Grant has surrounded the young nucleus with battle-tested veterans in Jack, Varejao, and Bynum along with two additional young first round picks in Zeller and Karasev (who at the very least have good role playing potential (& higher in Karasev's case)). Throw in a Earl Clark, Alonzo Gee, and CJ Miles and the Cavs now has the most dangerous young team in the entire NBA. A rich man's Golden State for those who love comparisons.

This latest move is what has convinced me that Grant is smarter than the NBA. He waited on his prey patiently (for the dominos to fall) and pounced with an unbeatable aggressive offer while protecting the team from future risk at the same time. He just signed a top 3 Center in the league (if healthy...of course) for under market value. If our team is healthy, we could potentially be as high as a 3 seed, although I see us falling in the 4-6 range and advancing to the second round. With Kyrie in the playoffs, who knows how far we could go? With Chris Grant at the reigns, I have a hard time seeing the Cavs not winning a championship within the next 3 years.
