Game Thread | Game #10 | Cavs @ Clippers | Nov. 7, 2022

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I just hope that Garland can be really fine with giving the keys to Mitchell when it matters, at least for now. He was kinda looking him off tonight.

Balancing a backcourt of two great scorers is tough.

Now you guys are creating things that aren’t there.

Come on Dom.

All the talk post game from everyone is they were throwing extra bodies and denying Mitchell the ball. The game showed that down the stretch too.

When that happens someone else has to make a play or they’ll just keep doubling and denying Mitchell. DG failed doing that tonight. In spectacular fashion too.

This is a kid with a shade over 2 seasons worth of NBA experience, most of which hasn’t had much winning involved. These kind of failures and how he rebounds tell us more about him than the front running scoring and playmaking.

I trust he won’t let the same thing happen again all that often moving forward. Too talented.

Balancing a backcourt of two great scorers is tough. There must be some competition of some sort in such dynamics. I hope not, and that it's just gonna be a way to push each other rather than create any form of jealousy.
They were not denying each other the ball. They were running the clock down and were unprepared for the Clippers sudden intensity.

Tonight was a learning lesson for sure. Sometimes u need to get punched in the mouth in order to learn. Can't win them all though. The ending just left a bad taste in our mouths.

I'm always iffy on the plus/minus stuff but when it's a 2 point game and Mobley is -20, big oof. He even balled out on offense, but I swear Clippers were just getting what ever they wanted tonight it seemed.

I just don’t think the Mobley at center lineups are working. Mobley is a great defender at the 4, but as a primary rim protector he’s just way too passive. And he’s an even worse rebounder at center than he is at PF obviously. I don’t know what the answer is. More RoLo when Allen is off the floor?

I edited my post a bit. I'm saying what I'm saying because they are both young and just last year it was Garland's team and now it is essentially Mitchell's. I don't know what's going in Garland's head.. ofcourse I don't. But he is young and that is natural. If we are judging his personality up until this point, you would think that it's not in his nature and he is a kind of guy that is okay with deferring to others.

I remember leading up to this season, Garland was asked about his increased responsibility and needing to shoot 20 shots a game and now that Mitchell is joining the team, that pressure is gonna go down. He said he actually liked shooting that much. It seems to me like he does want to have the ball in his hands.

This team has a chance to be able to share the ball pretty damn well with their personnel in the backcourt. It's not a Hawks situations. But we will need someone to play more off the ball, and at times take a backseat to the player that is hot and/or has the more favorable matchup. Tonight Mitchell needed the ball.

Yes, a blame is put on DG tonight. But what i'm somewhat concerned about is how they are gonna respond to his performance. Coach will have to at times talk to DG and tell him, listen, pass it to Mitchell and get our of the way. And DG is gonna have to be okay with it. What I don't want is for Don to have to do that with DG...

Mitchell was doubled off and on the ball. You can run plays to get him open. The timeout management was lacking to make an adjustment. What made it even worse was having sub optimal lineup as far as shooting as concerned. When Mitchell is that hot, you surround him with shooting asap and let him go to work. It's pretty simple. Cavs up are up big, you put in your best offensive lineup and not let them catch up.

It is a learning experience for everyone, and the officiating was painful, but there are some stuff that are worth looking out for, and after a sad loss like that, I don't mind writing about it.

He was slow on defense and his screening has to get better. We have to free our ballhandlers better on the ball and to make our sets work we have to screen better to make it efficient. Our screening is just sad to be frank.

I'm not in love with the forced Mobley post ups. Developing some quick decision making with his passing and shooting as well as developing a 3pt shot is gonna be key. He had a chance to pass it to an open Don a few times tonight.

My goodness we lost an away game against a decent team, second game of a back to back by 2 points due to some sketchy reffing . Some major overreacting

I woke up (was sleeping the entire game) to see the Cavs lost a game that, by the quarter scores, was close the whole way. On the road, to fall to 8-2. I come on here to see dudes freaking out lol

Lol. But it was rigged. Cavs win probability was 98.2%!
Yeah I get the context now. Up 13 in the fourth with missed bad shots and TOs from DG. Not good to lose. But you can’t win them all.

I re-watched the last 4 minutes and I am confused. The only times Mitchell did not touch the ball was when DG beat his man and blew the layup @ 2:02, DG tried getting it to Mitchell but it was intercepted @ 1:41, DG drove past his man and dished to JA who had a dunk but was fouled and wasn't called @ 1:11, and @ 12.6 where DG brought the ball up court (Mitchell was pointing at something so I think they were going to run a play but DG wasn't aware or ran the wrong one, but at this point the score was Clippers up 117-114 and it ended up two FTs anyway), then @ 5.4, Mitchell was the first and only to touch and took the last shot. There was no time left after that.

At literally all other times, Mitchell touched the ball to set guys up or passed it back to DG to initiate the offense.

They missed three wide open 3s, turned the ball over twice, blew a layup, JA got fouled to fumble the ball on a would-be dunk, and DG missed a FT. All signs of dead legs, especially DG who is playing nearly 40 minutes in a b2b in his 3rd game.
