Indians Trade Garko to Giants

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Let's hope Pavano does good, because he definitely should be on his way out.

EDIT: Solo homer for LA.

Hammy just said Scot Barnes was a 1st round pick! Great deal!

EDIT: wtf. come on.

Well, just another good prospect added to keep our title as 'The Best Young Team in Baseball"...

Too bad we suck in the majors..

lol

To be the best team of anything, you have to be at least kind of good. We may have one of the better farm systems in the league but the Tribe is the best baseball team in Cleveland and that's about it.

I'll tell you why this trade pisses me off and i has nothing to do with the value we received. In fact, this trade pisses me off more than a Lee or VMart trade would. Don't get me wrong, VMart and Lee are much better players than Garko, but Wedge and Shapiro f***ed with Garko for such a long time, he never got a fair shake. When he played regularly, he was very very productive.

I'm a little biased, considering I've hung out with Garko a few times and he's beyond nice. But do the research and you'll see that, when Garko played regularly, his BA is almost 80 points higher than when he's jerked around. It just epitomizes the Wedge/Shaprio era: If you're not one of their guys, you don't belong.

I think we'll all be pretty happy when those two leave (Wedge at least, still have a glimmer of hope Shapiro will prove himself) but don't feel bad for Garko, dude's going to his home state to play on a contender. Good for him.

This is working out perfectly, at this rate the Indians will be able to develop Marte, LaPorta, and Rondon into solid All-Star caliber players like Sabathia, Lee, Victor, just in time to trade them to contenders and get more prospects!!!!!

All kidding aside, this does appear to be pretty good value for Garko, my sarcasm just stems from me being tired of the Indians just recycling our talent (and I mean Vmart/Lee more so than Garko) for prospects who we just end up trading once we develop them anyway.

That and the fact that he has the starting job in the bag for at least two years. However, being pissed about losing an average baseball player is a little much. Methinks the Indians are going to be pissing you off quite a bit this week.

I don't feel bad for him at all. It just epitomizes how this organization has been run. Was Garko AS quality? No. But what he is is a guy who projects to hit .275-.285, hit 20-25 HR's, 85-100 RBI's. Wedge and Shapiro never liked him. This is well known. Why? Nobody knows the real reason.

Never liked Garko, so I'm not sad to see him go..

What a suprise, when are the fans going to just stop going to the games all together?

I'm not pissed off, I like the trade too. The Indians are incapable of pissing me off at this point unless they move the team.

Damage,

Garko's playing time the past 2.5 years has been about as much as you could ask for. Having a catcher in Victor who is so good offensively, it's important to get him playing time at 1st base often to save his body the wear of catching 145 games a year. The past two seasons, Garko has played 138 and 141 games. That's about as much as you can expect when you have to give some time to Victor at first.

The last 2.5 years, in Garko's age 26,27,28 seasons, which are a hitter's PRIME years, Garko's hit .282/.354/.447 AVG/OBP/SLG. Meanwhile, the MLB average 1st baseman this year is hitting .275/.361/.481. Basically, Garko is a league-average 1st baseman minus a bit of power, which I'd imagine most would agree with. He's easily replaceable, is going to get paid in about 5 months, and we have LaPorta waiting for the wings (assuming they don't like him in the outfield).

yeah, not sorry to see him go, and we got pretty decent return on him I'd say. I'd rather have this team be a contender, but this isn't a bad return.

We'll never return to 90's form until we get a new owner, a new GM, a new manager, and all new coaches.

We'll have a string of back to back good years when we bring up our prospects and they all have breakout season and then the process repeats. That's how it works when you don't have the money.
