Jim O'Neil is Frisco's Problem at DC

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Re: Browns hire Jim O'Neil as DC.. OC still TBA

Defilippo former Jets QB coach while Pettine was there, gives me an indication he's got a good amount of say in hiring his staff.

A small sign of hope, taking the small victories where you can get them with this club. :chuckles:

He's also a Youngstown guy, so plus one in my book.

The people I know who are Jets and Raiders fans hate him, FWIW.

Any reason in particular?

Dude has had Mark Sanchez, Jamarcus Russell, Matt McGloin and Terrelle Pryor for the better part of his career.

God bless the guy for even getting interviews, he must have some sort of good reputation despite not being able to polish turds.

Bortles and Shanahan are just an excellent match, IMO.

I mean as much as I've been on the fence about Shanahan, it does present an intriguing situation. People are trying to play up a Manziel-Shanahan combination, but people are severely downplaying Bortles' mobility and athleticism.

The kid has size and he can move.

Bridgewater?

Do people forget he's just a shade less mobile than Johnny. He just doesn't need to use his legs as much because he has great vision down the field.

I won't argue that, I just don't think the Browns will be in any position to draft TB.

Shanahan has worked with various types of QBs from Matt Shaub to RGIII to Kirk Cousins to Donovan McNabb.

He's had a ton of success with most of them, and McNabb was on his last fat roll...I mean leg. His zone blocking schemes are amazing and lead to one of the top rushing attacks on a yearly basis.

I'm really interested to see how this OC hire turns out..

Considering the names thrown around, I really think it just goes to show how few good offensive names and offensive play callers are available... I'd like to see them possibly expand this beyond just Shanahan and DeFilippo...

I actually really like Mike Bloomgren of Stanford; I'd even extend out to see if maybe Chad Morris or Phillip Montgomery might make the jump... Otherwise, I'd look at other pro guys like Geep Chryst, Randy Ficthner and Ken Zampese...

The intriguing thing that I noticed is a lot of the names thrown around (Shanahan, Van Pelt, DeFilippo) are younger coordinators in their 30s with little experience in the NFL... Yes Kubiak and Callahan were names of interest too but it seems like Pettine is interested in perhaps going with some newer, fresher names on the offensive side of the ball...

I also particularly enjoy Pettine extending his search outside of the normal linked names that he's worked with...

I respect Shanahan as an offensive mind but really worry about the problems within locker room and coaching staff that he reportedly caused in Washington... Now that was a toxic environment and perhaps the best thing for him will be to get away from his father and Kubiak but it is a little concerning...

I'm actually quite excited about the defensive staff... I really think Weaver will be an underrated addition... I'm always a proponent of getting a former player on the staff like Weaver to help be a bridge between the coaches and players in relating to them, especially with a new coach trying to get players to buy into him... Someone like Weaver plays a big role in that..

I'm not too concerned about the lack of experience on the defensive side of the ball, honestly... For a guy like Pettine, I think Rex Ryan is a good example of his coaching staff working out well because they're all guys with a similar vision, cut from the same cloth, all having went through similar experiences together.. I really think it breeds cohesiveness and these guys will form a pretty good defensive crew...

Does Shanahan remind anyone else of Drama from Rob & Big?

Anyone heard that they might be interested from someone from the superbowl teams? Otherwise, this is just absurd.
