The 2013 Cleveland Indians

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
By the way, Lastoria doesn't think it's too far fetched:

I don't think Francona and company would DFA a guy like Reynolds when there isn't much in Triple-A which would be on the verge of a call up to replace him.

Fedroff, Diaz or Phelps are the only position players on the 40, it's much more likely they rest Albers as a long-man for Wednesday and keep him ready for when Salazar reaches his 75-90 pitch cap.

Paying Reynolds not to play when those two are the alternatives doesn't seem like an Indians move.

With that said, a waiver trade would be a game-changer. Until that happens, I doubt they'll cut ties with Reynolds.

Nobody on the verge of a call up, but they'd still produce about what Reynolds is at this point anyway. I can see them calling up a Phelps to replace him on the roster. The power threat wouldn't be there, but Reynolds has all of 2 HR since 5/29..

Oh, no doubt Albers will still be the long man for that game, but if he labors like his last outing, we're screwed, being down a bullpen arm.

I think it's pretty safe to say these aren't the same Indians we're used to seeing. Hell, hiring Francona wasn't an Indians move. Being a huge play in free agency isn't an Indians move. We've been saying that this entire season.

Hell, cutting Reynolds playing time isn't even an Indians move. We're pretty much paying him to play twice a week as it is. I think the mindset is to do whatever it takes to get in the playoffs.

I just don't think cutting Reynolds is worth it for the benefit of ONE game against Detroit. (Salazar is getting sent right back down after his start Wednesday.) Optioning Shaw for 10 days is a much better and safer option. If we can hang on for another couple weeks, the rosters expand and everybody wins.

People always talk about a trade coming via the waiver wire, and while I'll be pleased if it happens it's usually unlikely.

Carlos Pena is a name that is out there now since he was released by Houston. He's not much worse/better than Reynolds and plays better D down at first.

He's playing about 2-3 days a week already & still not producing when he does (besides today's double), so what exactly would we be losing? His threat of power? Today was his 1st XBH since June 28. June. 28. It was his 2nd XBH since June 15; and his 3rd since May 29. Hell, it was his 1st double since May 15....

Look, I hope I'm wrong. Reynolds' power could help us tremendously down the stretch if he can get it going again. I'm just not sure we can afford to even play him 2-3 times a week right now with as bad as he's been over the course of the past couple months..

You're paying him anyway, you almost have to keep him around and try to get him figured out.

With nobody to replace him, just doesn't seem prudent.

Reynolds responds today with two hits. Tough to DFA a guy with that sort of power. It would have to be a major upgrade. Carlos Pena isn't really an upgrade.

I'm not really arguing whether or not they should do it, just whether or not they will.

I see the logic of whether or not they should DFA him from both angles and really wouldn't mind or care either way. All I want is what's best for this team down the stretch.

I think it's safe to say with the way Shaw has been pitching over his last 6 outings or so (give or take) and the fact that he just came on in the 7th inning of a 1-0 game, that he won't be sent down Wednesday.

Ubaldo is starting Friday, so he's not your long man.

Albers will have to be your long man Wednesday with Salazar on a pitch count.

It sure seems like they're setting it up to make a move with a hitter..

If they chose not to DFA Reynolds, who all have options that could be sent down for a game? I know Chiz does because he's already been down this year, and I'd assume Gomes does, but I don't think you'd want to send down our only other catcher incase something happens to Carlos.

Won't be a hitter.

With this move, it looks pretty clear that Ubaldo would not be in a playoff rotation and very unlikely to have his team option picked up.

So which pitcher goes?

Albers has to be your long man. Shaw was just used in a very high pressure situation, so it doesn't look like it's him..
