The Brian Hoyer thread...

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Fuck matching our win total from last year. 13-3 or bust.

This team reminds me of the '03 Bengals with Hoyer standing in for Kitna and Manziel for Palmer. Their defensive oriented rookie HC got them to 8-8, Kitna provided competent, but not great QB play, their hyped, first round QB got to red shirt, and they changed what had been over a decade of losing culture to morph into a regular division contender.

I hate Cincinnati, but I would love if we continue to follow that blueprint.

All they need is a more talented backup QB behind Hoyer who can take over.

Until Manziel proves that he can't play in the NFL, I'm rooting for him to figure out how to be a pro and win this job after this season's end.

Hoyer is a pretty solid guy for a coach to have while he's trying to establish the team's identity. After the team is performing well as an entire entity, I think the staff will/should feel comfortable inserting another guy into Hoyer's position for the long-haul.

If the end result of that blueprint is Andy Dalton...

Well then frankly, fuck that.

If Palmer hadn't been Kimo von Oelhoffened, who knows where the Bengals would have ended up. However, if I see another ginger QB on the Browns, I'm rooting for Buffalo.

At the end of the day, how anyone would not trade the past 10 years for the Bengels last 10 years in beyond me. Would I like to be better, yes, but give me a team that can compete year in and year out.

As long as we're doing historical fantasy trades, I'll do a hypothetical trade with a team who's won a playoff game recently. :D

The Pats, Baltimore and Colts (minus a year)

Andy Dalton would be the best QB we've had in like forty years. :chuckle:

That is absurd.

Some of you have some really, really, really low expectations. We've been really bad, sure, but follow the Bengals blueprint?

I rather be in our situation than theirs. Yes, they are a better team, and have been a better organization than us. No arguments, but, they're one of many teams that will stuck with their very average-to-slightly above average QB for many years, and will have to accept never being good enough to win a SB.

I don't care how terrible we've been, the end game, regardless, is to eventually be in contention to win a SB. At least we're not stuck with a QB we know isn't good enough to go to the next level for the next 5 years.

God, I'd hate to be a fan of the Bears, Bengals, and Falcons right now. Knowing there's no light at the end of the tunnel, and this is what we have to live with.

At least the Browns have a slimmer of hope, of maybe one day finding a guy that can really play the QB position.

It does happen. The Patriots were a sorry franchise before Tom Brady. The Colts for years were bad before Peyton.

So don't tell me it doesn't happen, even to a struggling franchise like the Browns.

You mean make the playoffs several years running? Yeah, that would be fucking terrible.

And I wasn't saying that I liked Dalton or wanted him as our QB, but let's not pretend that he isn't miles better than any QB we've had since the franchise came back to Cleveland.

Those playoff games outline exactly why Andy Dalton isn't that good. He's honestly been that team's biggest weakness for a while now.
