I'm surprised more Cavs fans aren't higher on Sexton. I hated the pick at the time (I watched Sexton play maybe his best game of the season in person for Alabama @ Arizona and still left unimpressed), but he has absolutely proved me wrong. He constantly plays hard––which for a small market team like the Cavs is the identity I think we need––has elite speed, is a walking bucket, has improved tremendously in his 1.25 years in the league, and has gone from looking like he will always be a minus defender to looking like he can be a real positive defender once he adds more strength.
Long term maybe his best role will be as a great 6th man. But I see no reason to make that determination now on this Cavs team devoid of talent. I definitely see a future where he's a long-term starting guard alongside hopefully an elite wing that can be "the guy." I think the identity he would provide to a starting lineup with more talent could be invaluable.
