22 GM Thread!!!

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I'm not sure when he's back but as I mentioned before I'd rather target Danny Jansen (currently recovering from finger injury but shouldn't take too long). He's got more control, and Toronto has no place for him as long as Moreno is looking strong. Moreno is acting as starting catcher now with Kirk playing DH and backing up C, which is a duo of young players likely to stay in that lineup for a long time.

Jansen brings solid defense as well as power to the position and can be likely obtained at a bargain.

I not against Jansen, but what are you willing to give up for him?

If I was the Jays honestly I would want a deal like Lavastida, Burns, Allen and Brennan. I wouldn't take any less...

massive overpay.. one of those names (and NOT Lavastida).. at most or forget it..

That's his price, via BTV and real life. That's what they will get for him if he's available from another catching needing team...

Half of that wouldn't even get you Contreras in this market...

then you would NOT get a three month rental for prospects that are VASTLY more valuable.. move on..

Well then we aren't getting Jansen nor Contreras since they won't be at the price you want them to be

Real life and BTV are not the same thing...lol.

Anyway, when talking about trading prospects, we should consider that several prospects whose names are being mentioned are not going to get protected from R5 anyway, so in a sense the cost for a rental would be zero, if we used them to acquire one.

I was just looking at who else might bid on someone like Jansen or Contreras and Houston really pops out. If we think our catching situation is bad, check out theirs. They are going to almost certainly add someone.

They have two 35 year old guys who are hitting under .150 with below average defensive metrics. They have an okay prospect in AAA with a wRC+ of 65, and 28% K/6% BB who would likely put up Hedges like numbers offensively at MLB, who defensively seems like a subpar receiver with a strong arm.

This might allow Toronto/Chicago to control the price more.

Edit: missed that Yainer Diaz is all the way in AAA now as well. Would be ironic if he were the solution.

Peter Gammons mentioned twice in his most recent article on The Athletic that the Marlins would be targeting a CF in any Pablo Lopez trade discussions. They also need an upgrade at SS. Will Brennan and Gabriel Arias for Pablo Lopez is an intriguing idea, as Lopez has two and a half years left of control and would immediately be slotted in as the #2 starter in this rotation.

I actually kind of wanted to reply to this, so I switched it to the GM thread, so Bimbo can answer it in his thread...

I don't think anyone is against your idea, while we don't necessarily need an SP, if we put Quantrill or Plesac in the deal, then on paper it doesn't hurt us any at all...

Go by BTV values, Plesac, Arias and Brennan doesn't even come close to getting Lopez. It would have to be like Plesac, Arias, Brennan and Freeman type of deal for a position we are deep in. I just dont know if I can honestly merit that one... plus Marlins aren't as weak at CF as he projects, they just have more of the low BA, high OPS. I just have a hunch they will want Williams in the deal...

@Gson You haven't been helping take down benjo in the BTV site... lol

I put up a trade for Ian happ today, I has it as Jones, Tena and Brennan, would you say no?

3 for 1 deal.. makes sense for a roster clearing move..

Ian Happ.. is having a career year.... buying "high" is what you're suggesting..

Soft pass..
