Trading for a catcher isn't dependent upon hitting. Its dependent upon whether Hedges can play.
He is gonna see another concussion specialist, which is concerning.

We are seeing some core pieces fall into place, and they won't be traded, unless the return is overwhelming...like a Reynolds type deal.
Kwan, Naylor, and Gimenez fall into that category.

If the FO feels that Hedges is gonna be severely limited, due to his risk of damage from concussions, then a Contreras-Happ package makes perfect sense, due to our immediate needs and the time lines we have for our catching and OF prospects. And given the prospect depth we have at MIF, pitching, and corner bats, an overpay is not that bad of an idea. We have to trade some of them anyway.
We don't have room for all of Arias, Freeman, Rocchio, Tena, and Martinez. We don't have room for all of OGonz, Jones, Brennan, Valera, and Noel. We also don't have room for all of our present SPs plus Pilkington and Morris, plus Battenfield, Curry, Cantillo, Hankins, and Torres (R5 22), plus Espino, Allen, Bibee, and Williams...all either in Columbus now or next season.
The excess prospect capital is available to get about anybody the FO wants.
