Browns Training Camp 2022

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
My question regarding Kareem is "Why now?"
I'm sure he has been wanting this extension for months now but you're hearing about it now more than ever because he's "holding in" at camp which is bringing attention to his situation.

From his perspective, he's 27 with 1 year left on his contract coming off a season where he only played in 8 games.
We don’t know that. Hunt is a pro bowl level RB who lead the league in rushing. You sure we have that 4th on our depth chart? I’m sure he’s not demanding some crazy number. Probably just similar to what he’s making right now just extending a few more years. That’s not really taking away from the rollover.
We don't know that. And even a 3 yr $21m deal w/ $11m gtd (Fournette extension) is pretty significant for a backup RB when the Browns FO has been handing out big money extensions left and right. I think Kareem Hunt is a luxury that the Browns cannot afford beyond this year. I think the Browns would sooner ship him out for a late round pick before extending him, personally.

If it’s a late round pick were better off just keep him this year. He’s more valuable to us this season then a 6th round pick. Plus we’d get a comp pick.

I’m curious to see how Anthony Walker has progressed, actually disappointed so far.
It might be how Wood’s defense runs; this defense doesn’t excite me currently.
I'm not sure at all what you mean by this.

Anthony Walker is a terrific leader, makes the calls for the defense, and is an average starting middle linebacker in the league. That's what he was in Indy, that's what we expected when we signed him away from them, and that's what he did when healthy last year.

What else are you expecting? If you want higher ceiling linebacker play, well, JOK is obviously number one with a bullet--but then you have to hope for Jordan Phillips to show out. Walker is what he is--and I don't think he's a problem.

Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if Hunt has been waiting to get paid like a top-20 NFL RB again since he was cut by KC. He's been a "good soldier" and all that for years now--I don't blame him at all for finally saying enough is enough.

The drafting of Ford should have been a clear signal to every Browns fan that both sides were okay parting ways. Ford is the replacement for Hunt. Ideally, we'd be able to trade Kareem for a high third-day pick.

Chubb is obviously your stud, starter workhorse. DEJ is Chubb's backup--the guy who can come in and play the majority of snaps if Chubb gets dinged up, or spell him for 5 runs a game. Ford is the guy who can make plays out of the backfield and break a long one with his speed in a way DEJ cannot. That's a great RB room. It's still one of the very best in the NFL (we're #1 by a huge margin with Hunt) and that's not even mentioning Felton.

Oh, and John Kelly is a pretty solid 3rd RB for a lot of teams in the NFL. He's currently sixth on our depth chart.

Just to briefly add to the Hunt thing, he probably shouldn’t have signed his last extension.

I get why a “hold-in” is now a thing, but it seems way worse than a hold out. At least with a hold out, the player is away from the team. With a hold-in, the player is there, just not doing anything. Seeing that as a player - I could see why it wouldn’t bug them **that** much as they get the business side too. But as a coach? I can’t see them easily compartmentalizing that when it’s literally in front of their face. In particular with Hunt, given his history, but even moreso the fact he is a clear number 2… he’s doing a hold-in with no leverage.

I don't think it's fair to call Hunt a "clear #2."

He's talented enough to start on teams in the league. He also sees more snaps on this team than a traditional backup would.

With regards to the "hold-in" vs "hold-out" I get it. It's why a sit-in is more effective than a boycott. It's more inconvenient. It also allows the player to say they showed up to camp and all that.

Trading Hunt is going to be a very fine needle to thread.

You don't want to ship him to a fellow AFC competitor, like Buffalo, because that's going to hurt you more than help you.

Any team that isn't looking to compete right now probably isn't going to want to trade for Hunt.

There aren't that many good options out there. I'm not expecting a large return.

That's unfortunate to hear about Hunt, feel like this ends with him being traded for a 6th before the start of the season. I don't think his role is as easily replaceable as others, but at a certain point you have to make some cuts when you've given big money extensions to Watson, Garrett, Bitonio, Teller, Ward, and Chubb

I am pretty confident that the Johnson, Ford, Felton trio could replace Hunt.

Browns stuck their neck on the line when nobody else wouldn't. (At the time)

I understand everything is about money, including putting your body on the line.

Good players should want guaranteed money. Teammates respect another man's worth. Hunt won't turn heads.

Without the Browns, who knows where Kareem's career goes, he was literally toptoeing the line of forced retirement because of his actions.

Shut up, play hard, let your game do the talking and earn every dollar in a year where there's a huge opportunity to do so. The guaranteed money will come and you're going be to fresh next to Chubb.

I think Hunt is more productive with touches than Ford.

I don't think the gap is that wide.

Hunt clearly is stronger and has better contact balance, but Ford has long speed that Hunt and DEJ do not possess.

Ford is the spice you season Chubb with. DEJ is the Chubb replacement if anything happens. Felton is his own little gadgety player.
