2009-2010 Season: Mike Brown's Player Rotation Chart:

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I dunno, seems like you'd play Lebron 48 mins a game if you went purely by what's working :chuckles:

I don't care for the minutes card, but anyone that's coached can tell you that your players never want to come out, they never "that" tired, and they can always do a better job than the guys who are out there. Shaq's embarrassing himself by complaining. It's certainly not Mike's fault that Shaq missed those chipshots later on.

MB already owned up, we'll see what happens next game. It took a long time to work up to a decent second unit last year.

I agree, there has to be some type of organized process, cause a coach can get caught up in the moment and ride his starters for far too long. I just feel it was irresponsible to remove just about everyone at once. Shaq was having his way, maybe he could have finished out the first quarter while Mo and LeBron went to the bench. Shaq could have sat longer into the 2nd quarter and MB could have let Z play a few extra minutes to give Shaq rest.

Granted it was game one, and it appeared to be experimental subs/rotations by MB I can live with that. As long as he quickly learns from his mistakes, and isn't stubborn about his ways, and makes better changes going forward we can probably all respect that.

He is complete garbage, fire him now and get some trades going.

Not panicking at all to be honest, but not being from the area perhaps let me to stay a little less emotional i guess.

The ugliness we see these 2 games do happen in the nba, they happen to teams that aren't in-sync, and without clear directions on what to do on offense or defense. Even Lebron looks real bad some times with his poor decisions, but that's not new.

Every problem the teams showcased so far is not anything we haven't seen in the Mike Brown era. Players looking disinterested, and look almost as if they don't know how to play the game in the most simple and instinctive way. Now I am not blaming everything on MB, but his "slow and long adjustment" period just about everytime the cavs add any player display the same traits on the team. It also happens everytime when he tries to coach offense, the team's defense will regress at the same time, as the players feels very unrewarding on the offensive end. History repeats itself, nothing new, just that this time is a perfect storm of sorts with 3 big pieces added, loss of West + kuester.

The teams, no matter who's on it, look the same, just as ugly, just as without a purpose on offense, as lackluster on defense. But if history tells you anything, they will eventually become better, that's for sure, that's what happen every single time. But just like every time, with more addition, it took loooonger for Mike Brown to figure out a clear direction. So, most probably, this will take quite a long time, and homecourt is very likely to be not with the Cavs in the East this year. And honestly, with the competition in the East, without homecourt, I don't think Mike Brown has the in-game offensive brains to win on the road against a hostile environments, when the opponents defense take up a notch on their homefloor. Then, next season, the team will be back to thriving for homecourt. So on and repeat.

At the end of the day. This roster is not perfect by any means, but there are obvious things to do with it and not do with it, which makes it frustrating for the fans. One of the reasons why it always take MB so long, is that he never just go with what's already obvious, without spending valuable game time to experiment with alternatives which often are bad ones. He spends time to re-invent the wheel. When you tell him the Sun rises from the East, he will first use 3 days to face south, west and north to try catch the dawn before he goes to east. Thus, the Snow+Newble, Ben+Andy, Shaq+Z, the all-bench sub. That's just the way he works.

Now, that's ineffective and inefficient, but often times, when you finally find the way that works, you have little doubts on what the alternatives will do, as you have tried them all. That's why Mike Brown is somewhat successful at the end.

The remaining question is always with this "slow" experimental style and his obvious lack of "offense", especially in game, would that be enough to win a 'ship...ESPECIALLY considering the current competition in the NBA. I honestly can not say the odds are that great.

If anyone of you know how the game "GO" plays and the match structure, Mike Brown would make a great "GO" master honestly. I am just not so sure being a nba "championship headcoach" is within his style's capability.

Fact Cleveland fans should take to heart right now: Orlando lost its first two games last year to Atlanta and Memphis

And they didn't even have to implement a new key addition to the roster. Greatness doesn't happen in a day, just wait. I half expected us to be amazing at the beginning but my gut was telling me that we will have kinks to work out.

Everyone will have kinks to work out. Especially the guy who wants to relive the Spurs' glory days of David Robinson and Tim Duncan both manning the middle.

Well, now there's two different rotation scenarios. One that includes a close game rotation and another that include a blowout game rotation (especially true for the first half of the game).

Take all of these rotations with a grain of salt.

Mike Brown hasn't found the perfect fit yet. And he may not until closer to January. I intend to continue to update this for discussion and fan feedback for the guys in charge.

2nd 07:39 Anderson Varejao LeBron James Jamario Moon Anthony Parker Mo Williams

This is the one I liked the most. I am suprised we did not go with it more.

I still have faith in Z and Shaq on the same team working, but on the same floor at the same time, you really cant expect that to work, except for against a few teams. Putting Shaq and Z out there at the same time could work, but it would take a very defined offensive strategy, not really just throw them out to improvise.

I think Shaq needs to get the ball more often, earlier in the shot clock, he has good vision and is a good passer. If you walk the ball up, then waste some time before you feed him in the post, he is left with a 7 second shotclock to work with, and that is not working.

I think Coach has to just let JJ play more minutes and see if he can find a rythm. JJ's 5 minutes a game of maybe not playing defense is not what put us in a hole the past two games, whatever reservations he has about JJs defense, he needs to let them go. His attempts to avoid putting JJ into the game are hurting the team more then any bad play JJ might have if he actually got to play.

I was suprised at how well Boobie played in his 34 minutes. He shot well, didnt celebrate, was better then awful on defense, and had a not horrendous assist to turnover ratio.

I have complete agreement with you on this post, TheBigLeBronski. The good news is, currently... we have so much flexibility with how to use the roster, as Mike Brown has clearly shown. Big, small, quick, slow, plodding, shooting, etc.

In fact, if we continue to work with what there is, Brown will sooner or later find something that works the best. This team was a decent test because we saw it last year with Orlando to some extent. Hopefully, they'll keep working with the rotations.

The biggest worry I have about him figuring it out is that, it should only take until about 6:00 left in the 2nd quarter to figure out what works and what doesnt. But I have seen Brown take half a season before to change his mind about something.

You would think it's easy to pick up a Phil Jackson type coach, would you?

People just can't accept the length of time it takes Mike Brown to adjust. It's not going to change... We should be happy we have someone who CAN play playoff basketball instead of picking a part his weaknesses. I can't see how we'd be better off with George Karl, Flip Saunders, even Stan Van Gundy...

Mike isn't perfect, otherwise he'd win championships like Phil and Greg have done constantly. He's at the next best level, but don't focus on the negatives... The positives are what could be the difference maker. I guess Brown isn't naturally able to adapt like Phil or Greg can, but how many coaches can WHILE proving to be successful coaching players and teams to victories in meaningful games?

This is precisely the reason I started this thread. I knew people would have trouble with the choices he made, but this allows us to keep learning how he reacts to situations, and how he improves. No point in going over what was stated a thousand times before, since he's here to stay, for now.

Karl and Van Gundy would improve this team, brown isn't anywhere near them. However, at some point the players have to play, so you cant blame brown for that.
