2019 Browns Rant Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
It definitely seems that Baker and Kitchens both took a step backwards so far this season. Having said that I don't think Baker's problems are as bad as people are making them out to be. I wasn't able to watch the game live and I saw overwhelmingly negative and condemning comments towards Mayfield before I watched the game. Sure there were some bad possessions with lots of room for improvement but I also saw some really good possessions last night as well, with very little positive commentary from the Browns fans.

I hate the number of 5 step drops, and the slow developing patterns, and the lack of creativity in the run game. IDK why these are so much worse than last year but Kitchens needs to correct those things ASAP. No reverses with Odell and Jarvis? No counters or mis-directions, no "rub" routes to free up Jarvis and Odell on quick developing patterns? It seems the defenses can just pin their ears back and attack a very vanilla looking offensive scheme without worrying about any kind of deception. This is mostly on Freddie.

Baker failing to pull the trigger and hit guys on their breaks, and Baker flushing the pocket too soon is all on him.

But it's nowhere near as bad as people are making it out to be. There's been a lot of good along with the bad, and I'm hearing nothing about the good stuff.

Baker and the play calling have been extremely underwhelming. Bad play calling and bad quarterback play is a recipe for disaster and that's exactly what this offense has been. Throwing in some sort of misdirection will certainly help, but it won't solve all of our problems. It wouldn't hurt to get Baker under center and boot him out from time to time the way the Rams did with Goff last night. Some of the Rams biggest offensive plays were off of boot and drag routes. They don't do anything to keep defenses guessing, there's absolutely zero window dressing pre-snap.

Goff does exactly what Daddy Mac tells him. I saw a Twitter post about that. It was funny.

Baker was filming commercials, going to the Derby, shotgunning beers, and reading his press clippings all offseason. I think he lost that underdog mentality. Well Baker, now we think you suck, so prove us wrong.

On a positive note it was good to see them take advantage of Harris skill set in the red zone. I wouldn’t mind giving him a few fades and jump balls down there until Njoku comes back.

Yea Baker missed OBJ wide open in the red zone last night because he had one too many beers with Stone Cold Steve Austin back in July. If only Baker was hanging out with a true Olympic hero like Kurt Angle and drinking his milk he would come into each game prepared with the three I’s. Intensity, Integrity, and Intelligence. #ItsTrue

Another positive takeaway is Special Teams. Having Landry return punts makes a lot of sense. Overall I would say their coverage and cleaning up the ST penalties has been much improved. The Hammer has maybe his wort game so far but he still had some good kicks. Siebert has been steady as well.

Maybe he should have been watching more film and practicing. You can’t say he looks good this year.

He should cancel his WWE Network subscription. Too many Raw Replays for him.

I don't know. There haven't been a lot of positives to build on concerning Baker and the offense in general. When guys are getting open, Baker isn't seeing them or hitting them.

As someone else noted last night, with the way the Rams run and scheme routes, they literally always had someone open. Fully acknowledging this could be a result of the injuries in the secondary. That being said, it seems all year Browns WRs have struggled to create separation, whether that's due to play design, play calling, or execution, I don't know.

The point is, after three games Baker has 3 tds, 5 ints, is only completing 57% of his passes, and has been sacked 11 times. That's really bad. Not sure how much positive you can pull from that. He's currently getting sacked 9.2% of the time he drops back to pass. That's kind of amazing. Sits in the bottom 3rd of the league in QBR.

After looking like a top 10 QB last year, Baker's performed as one of the worst QB's in the league for the first three weeks. Chubb has been the sole bright spot on the offense when he gets the ball. That just hasn't happened consistently.

Game of thrones was really disappointing.... Cleveland Browns: Hold my beer! Man I was so hyped for both this year. I just wasnt expecting such a step back after getting rid of Hue and bringing in OBJ.

If you don’t think there is a correlation between his off-season and his play, then you must be smoking the good stuff. His skittishness looks like a guy who isn’t prepared and is thinking and not playing.

Receivers are getting open, though. That’s the problem. Baker is just missing them.

You know I was just thinking that Patty Mahomes doing discount double checks with Aaron Rodgers and putting Heinz ketchup on his steak would really be his downfall this year.

Im looking forward to Myles Garrett falling off a cliff because he was in his birthday suit in the ESPN Body issue and he also became the new leader of the NFL Waterboys Foundation. Should’ve been spending more time in July going over the NFL rulebook.
