The reality is, until the Browns actually win 8 games, we should never predict more than that. The last winning season was in 2007? It's a terrible team culture, started by Randy Lerner's absentee ownership and made much much worst by the southern grifter.
I don't think anyone saw Baker being this terrible though. That's where a lot of the optimism came from. And you can only use the Freddie excuse so much, as bad as he's been.
Yeah, we know Kitchens has done a terrible job, and hasn't exactly put Baker in a great position to succeed. The line is not good. Last year we started to take off, when the line started playing better. I always thought THAT was one of the biggest take aways when the offense started playing better, and when Higgins came back. They finally started using Perriman, whose skill set was a perfect mesh to go with Landry, Callaway, and Higgins.
Freddie did a solid job calling plays too, but I wasn't that enamored with him like some were, personally. I just always thought he was a clear upgrade to Haley, whom, was and always has been garbage as a coordinator.
But Baker has been terrible himself this year. He's regressed. There's no way to say he's not, when he cleary has.. He's very inaccurate throwing the ball. I read a break down, that Baker is really, really struggling surprisingly on deep balls and throwing to the sidelines the most.
Last year, he seemed to thrive on those throws. He might be pressing way too much, or needs to clean up his mechanics.
The record of 2-5. I'm a little surprised, not that surprised. But given how bad Baker has played, it could be worse.
We are 7 games in, and he's thrown for just 6 TDs. He's looked Brandon Weeden kind of terrible.
