2019 Draft, Pick #30 - Kevin Porter Jr., USC

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I for sure think its more than that. That might be Kyrie, but this guy has some real mental illness going on there in my opinion.

How so? I'd point out there has been absolutely zero hints from anyone that there is a medical/mental disease component on this. No hints from his agent that he's "dealing with issues", none of that. Sure, that stuff isn't always going to be public, but we didn't hear anything about mental issues from college right on up.

Some people are just assholes. It's not a mental illness. It's just that you suck as a human.

They had zero control over him during Covid. They didn't let things go public, but he was suspended by the team so they didn't just let him get away with it, and it was the suspension that he resented.

Regardless, how they handled it didn't change who he is. He is that guy.

It was said the Cavs hushed up the previous police situation before the car wreck and then got him the best lawyer to get him out of any serious charges. You never saw someone who was "saved" from consequences fail to learn their lesson? The Cavs turned themselves into the bad guy by saving him from legal consequences only to try to impose their own

He's starting for the Rockets and showing respect for their organization.

The way he is reacting, he said saved his life. Often what we think as entitled is a hidden mental illness.

Just a guess, maybe he is just a huge asshole, doesnt really matter, he isnt our problem anymore.

My point is that if they'd have brought down the hammer early on, we'd most likely have ended up in the exact same spot - except earlier - because he's the type of person who never thinks he's the guy at fault. It's why he refused to take literally any of the steps the Cavs mandated during that summer, wouldn't speak to the coaches, etc.. Because he thinks he's never the guy in the wrong. So instead of flipping everyone else's post-game mean and cursing out the GM, he'd have just held out and demanded a trade over the summer.

Well of course he is, just like he did for his entire first season with the Cavaliers. So far, he's gotten everything he's wanted and believes he deserves, and doesn't see himself as having been "disrespected". So he's fine because they're kissing his ass.

The true test won't comes until the organization takes some action that he doesn't like, and then seeing how he responds to that. It hasn't happened yet, so he's still in the same period of "good times" he was with the Cavs during his rookie season.

I think you are probably right and we won't know for some time how this ends. Hopefully he's overcome his issues and stays in a good place.

Buddy this thread has been dead this season, huh?

Weird.

Is it? He hasn't been very good.

Hasn't been bad enough for people to gloat or good enough for people to gloat. He's no longer a Cav, and the Cavs are playing well without him.

He’s definitely been bad enough. Some of the worst production in the entire league given his minutes.

I've been a biggest KPJ fan (that isn't related to him, or on his payroll) since his time as USC and was disappointed the Cavaliers shipped him off. I did, however, accept that they probably saved his life by sending him to Houston (John Lucas), though. I think he has a world of talent and *could* be one of the best guards in the game *IF* he gets out of his own way. He's not doing that now.

That said, getting Mobley would've been difficult if we still had KPJ and, as much as I like him, I LOVE what Evan Mobley is and can be, infinitely more. I make that trade every possible time it's offered.

Yeah, using the same metrics that painted him as horrible last season too.

For the record, I think he's bad.

That said, the group who believes in him will point to his raw production, despite how inefficient and generally awful he's been in his minutes.

Ha there's a 6 page thread today on Clutchfans titled "We have to get rid of KPJ"
