I'm prepared for this to be a shit show of a season. I'm just hoping for the team to show progress as the year goes on. At the start of the season I think we're going to have to feature guys that nobody wants to see play just to get their value up enough to trade them. This will probably cause some young guys to miss out on playing time, which I'm guessing will annoy everyone, but seems unavoidable.
I'll be happy if we can get any kind of decent return for Clarkson, Knight and TT and I'll be ecstatic if Coach Beilein can put together good rotations and prove he can coach at this level.
It’s going to be an interesting season for sure.
On one hand you have a bunch of veterans on expiring contracts, who know they probably aren’t long for the team & may be thinking about putting up numbers for the sake of their next contracts. These guys include Thompson, Knight, Henson, Clarkson, & Dellavedova.
You also have a veteran, in Kevin Love, who is signed to a long-term, big money contract. While Love would likely prefer to play for a contender, at this stage of his career, his contract may prevent the Cavaliers from finding a deal to their liking, so they may prove to be stuck with him. That is, unless they’re willing to trade him for $0.50-$0.75 on the $1.00?
On the other hand, you have a group of, about a half dozen, young players, who are trying to find their way in the NBA and will be spoon-fed minutes, some of which they may not deserve ahead of these established veterans. How does that go over with these veterans, who are likely thinking more about their next destination than their current one? That could very easily cause discord and infighting.
The guy who is charged with holding it all together is coach Beilein. Like, I said, it should be real interesting...
