2019 MLB Trade Deadline

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Thing is Naquin is hitting lefties at an .882 OPS clip this year. Castellanos is better even than that but by how much? And how much is that worth? The real hole in our offense is at second base and, unfortunately, that's not changing this year.
You devalue Naquin vs lhp ... granted not a big power guy ...

Luplow has played left more

Ok, then take Bauers out of the lineup against lefties if that's what you're more comfortable with. But, Luplow has actually played RF way more than LF this year. Limiting Naquin's exposure against most lefties is likely why he's had success in his limited at bats against them this year.

Either way, it really isn't difficult to find a spot for Castellanos.

After watching Castellanos attempt to play the outfield for the last series we played against Detroit, the only way I'd want him here is if he was our DH at least 90% of the time.

Looks lazy, low IQ, and disinterested in the outfield. Career dWAR of -9.7, while his career oWAR is 15.3. Tyler Naquin has a higher overall WAR than Castellanos this season, and Luplow isn't far off despite just being a platoon guy.

I'd obviously take him for the right price, but I don't want to watch a dud play in the outfield when our outfield defense hasn't been terrible this year.

vs. RHP
DH - Castellanos
1B - Santana
LF - Bauers
CF - Mercado
RF - Naquin

vs. LHP
DH - Castellanos
1B - Santana
LF - Luplow/Bauers
CF - Mercado
RF - Naquin/Luplow

Castellanos has a 1.090 OPS against lefties this year, so having him and Luplow in there against LHP would be massive. He's been pretty ordinary against righties though, with a .748 OPS.

For the right price, I'd definitely take him. He's passable against righties and has mashed lefties this year, but he should be nothing more than a strict DH and occasional spot starter in a corner OF spot or at 1B considering he clearly has no interest in playing the field at all.

Considering he’s been red hot as of late, and Cincinnati is currently nine games under .500, Yasiel Puig would be a welcome addition to the outfield and middle of the lineup. Since he’s in the final year of his contract, he shouldn’t cost much either.

FWIW, Franmil Reyes plays about 6.5 innings a game before Andy Green replaces him.

The Padres don't have a defensive position for him which lessens his value greatly.

I think he's much likelier to be moved than Renfroe.

I will continue my offseason petition of acquiring the Franimal. Think taking him out of the field plays his bat up more too, on top of getting out of that home stadium.

Would would it take?

Please no ... again this time is thriving on playing together ... a concept foreign to Puig

Most recent example our last game with the reds

1) hung out in bullpen during pitching changes
2) always last person out of dugout to field
And more critically
3) little Reds to the field .. the players come out to greet them - shake hands etc ... except

You guessed it

He has seemingly never learned he is not bigger than the game

As has Luplow and Allen

And in the lhp scenario Naquin would lose abs

Luplow would still have his role (he doesn't belong in the line up against righties), and Naquin could still get all the at bats he's been getting. This has been explained to you numerous times.

Allen was literally just recalled from the minors about 2 weeks ago. He's hardly a fixture on the 25 man roster let alone the starting lineup.

So, the guy has led the league in slugging percentage since mid-June, but you don’t want to acquire him because he hangs out in the pen during pitching changes? Okay then...

I do not have him starting ... i feel I have been clear about that ... actually he is of #5 in my eyes

*sees 72 years old*

Yup, checks out

Yep 72 years of age and not the least bit ashamed ... respect for team and teammates / belief in chemistry

Shame on you for laughing at age .. rookie status a joke as well .. change of email took me down

Note instead that I do not hide behind a screen name

I was also very much against Donaldson last year

Replacing a player is not an issue ... I simply feel that Francona has handled 1b -dh - outfield quite well
