2019 MLB Trade Deadline

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I do not have him starting ... i feel I have been clear about that ... actually he is of #5 in my eyes
I didn’t say you did have him starting. But you said he’s earned his role, which he has been playing for all of two weeks.

Giving his at bats to someone else is a no brainer if you’re able to acquire another bat.

In those two weeks, Allen's numbers are .471/.571/.882, so I mean he is doing his job is he not? Luplow also has been putting up better swings overall against RH pitchers of late. I mean the other day, he didn't hit the lefty starter but hit off of the right reliever.

Honestly I agree with its likely Allen who loses his spot right now on the roster, but not because he isn't playing well, mostly because they want a different dynamic in the line up. I feel in the playoffs Allen is on the roster, while they go with 11-12 pitchers.

This lineup has been very good of late, so I still hope they get a setup man, so I am not against the Greene-Castellanos idea, or even the Dyson-Slater idea that @Randolphkeys inspired the other day.

@jack hammill I don't care what other peeps say, I have to agree with you when it comes to Puig. He has talent, but is too far up his butt to be worth acquiring for this type of roster. Like if they do get him, I know why they did, but I would prefer they don't. Also at least Donaldson is considered a good guy and never been said to be a clubhouse issue. On paper it looked like a good move, but at the end of the I think moving Jose was a bad idea when everything on the team was running smoothly. I feel if we get a DH/utility style of player, it wouldn't hurt us all that much this season since he really isn't taking a position from someone. Castellanos would just be a DH who would fill on other guys days off in the OF. Slater would just be a pure RH hitter to rotate into the lineup, who would give guys like Kipnis, Naquin, Bauers days off against lefties.

I didn't say Allen hadn't done his job over the last two weeks. But, you said the key phrase, TWO WEEKS. Anybody can have two good weeks. Now, I will say I value Allen over Slater, so that would be a bad move in my opinion.

And Luplow had a hit off a righty reliever? Who gives a rat's ass. That's one at bat. He's been hot garbage all year against righties.

Slater was a guy like Luplow who has never gotten a chance on his current team, and has played defensively just about every place on the diamond. I am just after Dyson and if we can get a guy like Slater, who can practically plays every position and is a perfect bench fit with the million lefties we have and the coach we have then I am all for it. From what is sounds like from AZ_ the Indians arent going to make a huge splash, if they make a move, but if you can get a Dyson-Slater combo at the right price, I actually would be okay with it. I don't trust anyone we have being the setup man right now, but Allen, Luplow, Freeman have shown they are good bench players, and the offense has been really good of late and its a sustainable good, I think priority is a setup man over anything else and getting a RH rental/controllable piece in the process is a bonus that I would like us to try and do. Also Allen has had very good ABs and everything like that. I think this type of hitting is sustainable in a sense, because he is doing everything right when he is coming up to the plate of late.

If you look at Luplow's approach with righties, its actually getting better and he is doing better against them of late. So he should continue to prove the more ABs he gets. I am not saying he will become anything amazing against righties, but I think he will get to being at least average against righties in due time. I am not looking at one AB but overall at bats of late when he has seen a right hander.

What would you be willing to give up for a Dyson-Slater type of trade?

Luplow has 8 at bats this month against righties!!! I don’t know how you can say he’s been doing better lately when there is no sample size at all.

His numbers against righties this year are the worst of his career.

Like I said, I’d rather play Allen than Slater, and I don’t think particularly highly of Dyson, so I’m not going to give them anybody I’ve ever heard of.

I like the idea because while Dyson is a straight up rental to help the bullpen for the year, Slater only has one year of accrued service time. He is a right handed bat who wasn't able to hit in the majors with a few past call ups, but then overhauled his swing. That would be a lot of team control years for a right handed bat that figured it out at the right time. The Giants know they might make a wildcard spot this year but have no shot at taking the division. If the Giants get a young pitching prospect, I believe they would pull the trigger on a smaller deal such as this one to be major players a few years later.

Then I have actually seen all his recent ABs against righties, lol. What I am meaning is the fact of his latest ABs, he hasn't been pressing and putting better ABs in general against them, but it could be because he is just batting better in general. He just looks better than he did at the start of the season against RHs. True 8 ABs isn't very many, so I guess it is too small of a sample size, but I do like the way they looked lol

Fair enough about the Dyson-Slater idea. Dyson is pitching better than he ever has, including the 38 save season. Slater to me is just a utility guy who fits the Indians style of play. I don't see him as an everyday guy, just a RH bat, who can play everywhere, to mix in with the left handed heavy roster.

See I don't like Greene as much as some do. I just don't think he is a setup guy at the end of the day with the career numbers he has put up and I want a setup guy. He has been great this season, but I am not sure I trust him as much as some others.

Dyson actually has one more year left on his contract after this one. I feel we will be a better team in 2020, so having a setup man and closer going into that season is why I am looking at Dyson. Slater just fits the roster from the bench in my opinion since about 900 innings in the minors at 2B, 400 at 1st, and 600+ at all individual OF positions. Then has had limited innings at 3B and SS. If he did overall his swing and is producing better because of it, then those two guys in my mind, are what the minimum we need going forward this season and with Slaters free agent date being 2024, he works well with the LH heavy setup we have right now plus control over a utility bench player.

Can we really say Slater has “figured it out”?

He has 39 at bats with the Giants this year.

Over Greg Allen’s last 39 at bats, he’s been a stud. They are equals in mind, so I’d rather stick with the guy I know.

If you think you’ve seen some new approach over the last 8 at bats I have to think it’s just because you want to see it. Sounds like confirmation bias to me.

It’s impossible to see new trends over an 8 at bat sample.

I feel Randolphkeys is also looking for the future with this move as well as this season.

I mean if it wouldn't cost much more to get him with Dyson, then not sure how it could hurt us in the end.

I guess I just trust what my eyes saw is all with Luplow. I will agree to disagree with you.

If this were fantasy baseball, Greg Allen is the more secure player for this season because of opportunities to play. The Indians are that desperate for right handed bats. Allen has always impressed me as an outfielder, so I'm not here to bag on the guy. I'm happy he is finally contributing offensively this season.

All that said, Slater has a legitimate arm, can play outfield, second, and first, in theory can help at third. He has been the statistically superior player in the past month.

If you believe the Indians should stand pat at the deadline, cool. They certainly could. I was just imagining a way that two of the hotter teams in the NL and AL might have a mutually beneficial trade from their own organizational depth: Tribe has young left handed pitching in the minors, Giants seem willing to part with some non-essential players who can help right now.

Josh Donaldson and chemistry was the culprit in last year's ALDS sweep

Not the bullpen blowing late leads, Kluber getting teed off on in Game 1, or the offense scoring 6 runs in the series. Chemistry

Tyler Naquin or Jake Bauers seeing less at bats every 4th day could doom this season.

That's a bold strategy cotton.......

I keep watching the Mets, as they should be looking to sell. Todd Frazier could probably be had for next to nothing and may be a fit for an AL team.
