2019 MLB Trade Deadline

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
If this were fantasy baseball, Greg Allen is the more secure player for this season because of opportunities to play. The Indians are that desperate for right handed bats. Allen has always impressed me as an outfielder, so I'm not here to bag on the guy. I'm happy he is finally contributing offensively this season.

All that said, Slater has a legitimate arm, can play outfield and first, in theory can help at third. He has been the statistically superior player in the past month.

If you believe the Indians should stand pat at the deadline, cool. They certainly could. I was just imagining a way that two of the hotter teams in the NL and AL might have a mutually beneficial trade from their own organizational depth: Tribe has young left handed pitching in the minors, Giants seem willing to part with some non-essential players who can help right now.
You might want to double check Allen’s stats over the last month. He’s been superior to Slater. Not that any of it matters since it’s such a small sample size. I’m just saying that if you think Slater has figured it out then Allen has figured it out even more.

I don’t think the Indians should stand pat. I just don’t think Dyson and Slater add anything to the team. Allen is a switch hitter, so replacing him with a righty, who isn’t any better, doesn’t do it for me.

Yep 72 years of age and not the least bit ashamed ... respect for team and teammates / belief in chemistry

Shame on you for laughing at age .. rookie status a joke as well .. change of email took me down

Note instead that I do not hide behind a screen name

I was also very much against Donaldson last year

Replacing a player is not an issue ... I simply feel that Francona has handled 1b -dh - outfield quite well

I don't think anyone has judged you because of your age.

I think people judge your takes.

If you're adamant that a guy who's spent the majority of the season in the minors, and is, at best, our 5th OF, has "earned his spot" and we should refuse to improve the team because of that, well, I'm not sure there's anything left for us to discuss.

The stereotype of your take coming from someone older was just humorous.

I would rather have Allen than Puig on my team any day of the week...

I'm not even bringing up specifically Yasiel Puig.

The idea that Greg Allen has "earned his spot" on any team this season other than the Clippers is just silly.

It's nearly as silly as seeing Jordan Luplow get a hit off a righty and then saying it's obvious he's "figured it out" or "improving" or "more comfortable at the plate" or whatever else you want to attribute it to. I mean, I'm willing to bet you weren't exactly watching him on the regular before he came to Cleveland, so you don't even have a frame of reference to make those statements from--let alone trying to say them off of roughly zero data points. But hey, I was just gonna leave that one alone.

Well Allen's numbers in July are very high, so he is doing well and he is also solid defensively, so he does in my mind make the roster as a 4th OF and would on a lot of teams. So on paper he has, but he still needs to keep proving it.

I am just going by eye test. Look at Luplows swings from the start of the season and the last few ABs against righties. Even if you don't agree with statement/think its too small of a sample size, he is calmer overall at the plate, body language wise and that is a very good start.

Allen's numbers in a tiny sample size shouldn't trump his numbers that he's posted his entire professional career up until that time.

I'm not even arguing if he should be on the team or not. I'm just saying that if you have the opportunity to improve the team, you do it. Claiming you can't move Greg Allen because he's "earned his spot" on this team is ridiculous.

I don't believe that your take on Luplow is based off tangible observations. I think that if the end result were different (he didn't get a hit off a righty) you wouldn't have the same opinion. But, it's not something I care enough about to debate. Luplow's role this year is lefty specialist, and anything he does against righties won't matter in the larger picture. If he is getting better, that's great.

I respect your view but go back and review the emoji attached to the post I am referencing

As for my takes I note some support for keeping Allen in the posts preceding yours as well as questioning the value of Greene in a trade ,,, some are even indicating standing pat is not bad

And note I was not alone on Puig

I support sportcoach ... Point of it all is that Allen much like Freeman earned spot is to be ready off that bench . Certainly you cannot argue that since his return he has done that ,,, Bauers much the same - need at 1b .. he is there or lf he is there or to the pine again no issue .. all is important

I see someone seeing a take that would be stereotypical of an older person. They clicked a username, and saw that the take indeed came from an older person. I took the laughing emoji to simply say that the take matching the stereotype was humorous. Are you trying to insinuate there's malice there?

I'm not arguing for or against keeping Greg Allen on this roster. I just want to point out that saying we can't demote him or trade him because he's "earned his spot" on a team he's played a minority of the season with is silly.

Slater had him until Syndergaard and DeGrom put up some masterful starts this weekend, but Slater did sneak in some time at second base. Again, the jewel of a trade would be the bullpen boost right now and I suggested Slater or Pablo as a sweetener. The Giants are looking at a window to win down the line a few years.

Should we make anything of the fact that the Indians haven’t been linked to any players on the trading block with only ten days before the deadline and the only rumors involving them surround trading Bauer or Hand?

My take on it:

If you're expecting the Indians to buy big for this season, you'll be disappointed.

I wouldn't be surprised if we bought small for this season, or bought medium-to-big for the next couple years.

I don't think we sell Bauer, but I can see why it would happen.

I'd be shocked if we sold Hand.

From what I understand, our organization is pretty tight-lipped regarding leaks, so it's pretty much just us spitballing.

Perhaps good news with regard to zero or minimal links
