You might want to double check Allen’s stats over the last month. He’s been superior to Slater. Not that any of it matters since it’s such a small sample size. I’m just saying that if you think Slater has figured it out then Allen has figured it out even more.If this were fantasy baseball, Greg Allen is the more secure player for this season because of opportunities to play. The Indians are that desperate for right handed bats. Allen has always impressed me as an outfielder, so I'm not here to bag on the guy. I'm happy he is finally contributing offensively this season.
All that said, Slater has a legitimate arm, can play outfield and first, in theory can help at third. He has been the statistically superior player in the past month.
If you believe the Indians should stand pat at the deadline, cool. They certainly could. I was just imagining a way that two of the hotter teams in the NL and AL might have a mutually beneficial trade from their own organizational depth: Tribe has young left handed pitching in the minors, Giants seem willing to part with some non-essential players who can help right now.
I don’t think the Indians should stand pat. I just don’t think Dyson and Slater add anything to the team. Allen is a switch hitter, so replacing him with a righty, who isn’t any better, doesn’t do it for me.
