2020 Draft Prospects Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I know he's playing RT and the Browns need a LT, but after hours of repeatedly watching YouTube cuts, I am starting to think Jedrick Wills has the consistently best tape of the top five guys.

If Stefanski and Callahan are convinced he can make the transition over to the left side without much issue...

Leatherwood is a better fit at LT for Bama because Wills is a beast in the run game, that's it. Wills was still a fantastic college tackle who moves like a basketball player. If I have to read all these Ezra Cleveland posts, let's be fair about Wills.

So, your take on him made me go back and watch some Wills tape. I really haven't watched any more of any of the top 4 tackles since the beginning of this process.

I don't know what I was seeing previously. I thought he played upright, and looked kinda uncoordinated with a tendency to get his feet out of place, and his body wasn't strong enough to make up for it.

Maybe I was on drugs? But now, Wills looks fantastic. He has terrific footwork, and just an uncanny ability to know how to position his body. He's a damn good football player, and I'd be happy to have him on our team.

I'm likely going to be up all night trying to figure out just how I got such a bad impression of him originally.

Thanks for sharing.

Becton is just too heavy for me to support as the pick at 10. I love his size + strength + athleticism combo, but I just don't think his weight and stamina are realistic for this scheme. Just not a fit.

Josh Jones or Ezra Cleveland could start at left tackle for the Browns in 2020, but both guys are a clear tier below the top guys and should only be considered by the Browns in a no-brainer trade down situation (multiple top 50 picks coming back).

So it comes down to Thomas, Wirfs and Wills for me at 10.

Wirfs is by far the most athletic of the three and the also best zone blocking fit. I desperately want to love him for those two reasons, but the more I watch his tape the more I'm left wanting more. He just doesn't dominate up to the level of his traits. Far too inconsistent in terms of not finishing blocks among other things. Because of his elite athleticism, his very best reps are better than Thomas or Wills' very best reps. But he simply has more bad reps than either of them due to his technique and fundamentals issues.

Thomas is probably the safest pick overall. There are no concerns about his ability to play LT. He's the worst athlete of the three, but still functional enough. Plus he's a very experienced player who graded out exceptionally well (highest PFF grade of the bunch) and got better ever year. That said... I don't think his skill set necessarily matches his PFF grade. Like Wirfs, I was somewhat surprised by the technique issues that kept cropping up in pass protection.

Wills is the intriguing one to me. Part of me thinks that if he had played LT at the same caliber that he played RT this past year, he'd be the no questions asked unanimous OT1 on all boards. I like his tape the best of the three. He looked, to my untrained eye, to have the most consistent fundamentals and technique. Obviously there's a huge level of unknown about his ability to transition to the left side that really isn't there for Wirfs and Thomas, so I don't know if that's a gamble the Browns are willing to take or not. If you draft him and he can't handle it, then you'd really be in a tough spot.

That's kinda how I have the tackles graded. I know people say there's a top 4, but for me it's really a top two.

If Wirfs, Thomas, Young, Simmons and Okudah are all gone before we pick, I'd expect us to take any offers to trade down where our front office feels the value is there.

Basically since the first weekend where I really dig into these guys, my opinion of the best future tackle for the Browns has remained unchanged:

1) Wills
2) Wirfs
3) Thomas
4) Jones
5) trade down
6) Becton
7) Cleveland

But I think the Browns are probably prioritizing a left tackle that can start from day one in Stefanski’s scheme. My view is their ranking is:

1) Thomas
2) Wirfs
3) trade down
4) Wills
5) Jones
6) Becton

I do not believe the Browns will trade down just for the sake of doing so. Just because analytics says to trade down for value, doesn’t just mean trade down. Anything greater than ten picks, and I expect the Browns to grab a future first or multiple seconds.

I like Cleveland... but I think that may be more smokescreen than anything. He’s not as good of a scheme fit as Jones, and it never makes sense telegraphing you want to trade down to grab a specific player.

They better be moving up to 33 for Ezra Cleveland in that scenario.

Neither of these would be my preferred choice, but two other options if the Browns end up not addressing LT early in the first round and can’t come away with Jones or Cleveland later would be to sign Jason Peters to a 1 year deal to be the stopgap starter for 2020 or trade a pick for Trent Williams.

I’d rather just get a young cost controlled tackle, but I do see the appeal in adding a player like Simmons to the defense that generally lacks high end talent. Don’t think Simmons will be available at 10 though.

This is a good safety class, but beware of some draft boards. Some of these mid tier guys really aren't very good. There is a big school prospect that I've seen in the top ten that I would hesitate to even draft. Basically the player version of the entire identity of the school, over hyped and overrated.

Are you talking about Delpit or McKinney?

I'm going to guess Delpit because his tape is more suspect.

Think lower...although Delpit is not nearly as good as his hype suggests.

The Draft Network, for example, has my mystery man within the top 100. Which is baffling.

Ahh, you meant in the top ten safeties. I thought you meant top ten overall.

Gotta be Stone or Wallace. I'm gonna guess Stone out of Iowa?

Ashtyn Davis and Terrell Burgess are my two favorites in this class that I think the Browns could be in a position to draft... though it is really hard for me to scout safeties without complete all-22 footage, so I rely on YouTube videos, which is an imperfect art.

I've given up on scouting safeties based off youtube film. I thought Eddie Jackson was undraftable.
