2020 Trade Deadline Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Bill Barnwell mentioned a potential Browns trade in his column today.

Browns trade David Njoku to 49ers
Cleveland Browns get: S Tarvarius Moore
San Francisco 49ers get: TE David Njoku

The Browns desperately need help at safety, so much so that Cleveland fans have literally started a petition for the team to move on from Andrew Sendejo. The problem is that there aren't many safeties available on the trade market, and the Browns don't match up well with most of the teams who might have one available, including the Buccaneers with Mike Edwards.

Moore was a promising free safety prospect coming out of Southern Miss, but the 2018 third-rounder hasn't been able to crack the 49ers' lineup and has played only 7% of the defensive snaps in 2020. The Browns would be in line to give Moore a shot. In return, the 49ers would get Njoku, who is about to hit free agency and would step into the Jordan Reed role as San Francisco's second tight end. This is a relatively minor move, but both sides might benefit from looking at the other team's disappointing draftee.

It wouldn't surprise me if something like this deal went down. I dont think Njoku has a place on this team anymore even after Hooper could miss some time (depending on how he recovers) so moving Njoku for a Safety/DB makes sense in my book.

Honestly my target at the trade deadline is either a late pick for a veteran Safety or a way to get a guy who has team control for a few seasons at like Safety.

We need to get a WR, but we need one for depth, not a high caliber starter, so we won't spend much in assets that way.

Hell, AJ Brown would have been awesome too.

We probably would have drafted Harry though. :chuckle:
I don't think AJ Brown would work with Baker. Stick him on this team and he looks more like Greg Little than whatever you think of him currently.

I'm also someone who refuses to consider the Titans an actual contender, so take everything I say with regards to Henry, Tannehill, and AJ Brown with a big grain of salt. They're one team where my evaluations have bit me for last season and this one, but I'm not really shaking from them.

I really don't see the Browns making a move on offense, or really needing to make a move... KhaDarel Hodge is coming back, who they seemed to really like pre-injury as did Baker, and with the emergence of Higgins and Peoples-Jones in an already TE heavy offense, I think they may be content to ride things out... Is trading for some of the WRs mentioned really worth giving assets up when guys like Mohamed Sanu, Donte Moncrief, Laquon Treadwell or Dez Bryant are available for free? If anything, I think it makes even less likely that Njoku is traded and they perhaps utilize him more split out in slot/WR looks to maximize the current talent they have... But if there is one guy that interests me it's Stills/Perriman, as they could really use a guy who takes the top off defense (which is what some considered Taywan Taylor during draft time)..

If the Browns address anything, it has to be on defense and it has to be in the front seven or back 4... They aren't getting any consistent pressure/disruption outside of Garrett and our backend coverage is consistently killing us... I highly doubt we consider any LB options considering the attitude we've seen from Berry thus far in really de-prioritizing LBs...

Eversen Griffen is an interesting name and one that should be heavily investigated given Vernon continues to be a monumental bust..

Having a bye week next week will be low-key a large factor as it'll give the Browns two weeks to get any addition acclimated and through COVID protocols..

I just can't understand how guys like Ha-Ha Clinton Dix, Eric Reid, Tony Jefferson, Prince Amukamara, Cameron Wake, Marcell Dareus, Timmy Jernigan, etc., isn't worthwhile depth additions then some of the guys we're trotting out there, especially when they don't cost any assets to add...

Like someone mentioned earlier, I don't see Berry & Co. selling out, especially in their first year with the team... I think they want to continue to see the young talent and give it a chance to step-up before expending future assets on a veteran... If we see anything, it'll be for a younger player on a controlled contract, or a veteran for a pick swap (we trade a 6th for a 7th)...
