2021 Around MLB: Return of the Dead Ball Era

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Injury prone players are prone to injuries.

So obvious, it sounds ridiculous in a sentence.

But its a sentence that is almost always ignored...by fans and GMs alike....and by prognosticators.

Naquin and Zimmer, and later Chiz, were/are always gonna be glass players in a stone throwing contest.

The same goes for Senzel, Donaldson, and Eloy Jimenez. Why anybody seems surprised when they get hurt is beyond me.

Problem is how do you figure out who are the injury prone guys to begin with? OOTP it tells you and in real life it doesn't until guys are out there honestly.

I dont think its that difficult.

Take Jimenez and Naquin as examples. Neither could stay healthy even before they played a game in MLB.

But you would think that after three years, somebody would get the hint. Donaldson has had injury problems since late in 2016...hip, shoulder, and recurring calf issues that seemingly won't go away. (See Chisenhall, Lonnie) And now a hammy.

On a side note:

I dont want to see Franmil playing in the field, unless it is absolutely necessary. Big DHs playing in the outfield are disasters waiting to happen, defensively and healthwise.

I mean, has anyone here never left a job for another job or opportunity which would pay more? I hate this attitude.

Cleveland was never going to pay him half the team's salary budget, and you wouldn't want that as a fan anyways. The amount of animosity it creates is insane, and for what amounts as a team sport, where clubs flourish as much on comradery as talent, it's best that CLE let him go (plus we received some nice talent in return), but to be mad at someone who is capitalizing on their talent? That's unruly.
I think it more has to do with the all of his comments in the off-season. From just totally quitting on the team last year to calling the fans lazy for calling him Frankie. Yeah he can fuck off.

If peeps called me by my middle name (which I hate) but it made me a lot of money, then well I'll learn to like the name. The name thing is not a big deal, but quitting on the team is... He was supposed to be out leader and when that happens nothing will ever work out for the team

I did say the team didn't feel right last season and it just felt like they weren't gelling and now we know why, because our leader didn't give two shits. It rubs off on the other players a lot more than people think.

We're not out of the woods just yet...hoping this is the rare exception this season, but everyone must still stay vigilant.

Maybe we should have shortened the season and had more off days for make up games... Meaning like have the full season, but did like 142 games, with those 20 extra days be off days/make up days.

a couple of points...

-144 games.. is a good test.. still, without equivocation a grind.. so, if the fans in the stands continues to be limited.. other means of revenue generation (coughPPVcough) will need to be considered.. it's inevitable.. imho..

-w/r to a shortened season to 142.. that still might happen.. & Covid/Contact tracing may not be the only reason for the season ending prematurely... we'll see...

I'm no expert on viruses, but IF MLB gets thru the next few months, things should be close to normal.

I feel like they should have still setup extra off days in a sense cause early in the season/until the vaccines are full distributed, games will be missed (at least statistically speaking) because of the virus.

Otherwise it should be a fairly straightforward season.

Because the discussion predictably went off the rails quickly, I'm putting the freeze on any more discussion about the All-Star game being moved. Deleting everything else.

If you want to discuss the AS game decision, find your way to the politics forum.

Back to baseball....

Back to baseball it is...

Trevor Bauer has a no no going thru six, with a pitch count that could conceivably get him thru three more innings.
