2021 Browns Training Camp

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Hopefully the Browns have a strong enough culture right now where they can give some good structure for McDowell and he can shine like Kareem Hunt.

“He has been great,” Browns coach Kevin Stefanski said, via Andrew Gribble of the team website. “He has been great in the meeting rooms, around the building and out on the grass. He is in a really good place, works very hard and is very serious about his craft. I see him making strides every day working with Coach Kiff (defensive line coach Chris Kiffin) and working with (assistant defensive line) Coach (Jeremy) Garrett.”

Right, agreed wholeheartedly, and consistent success and winning is a mild panacea at times.

But our WR aren't divas for as much as they are talked about in the media. You pretty much never hear a peep from our RBs, TE, or OLine. This team overall does well to limit exterior distractions and narratives.

This defense seemingly is buying into that all bite no bark mentality as well.

Truly a trickle down effect of their "guardrails" of selecting "smart, tough, and accountable" football players through the draft and having a very targeted approach to free agency. They know what they are after and strike rapidly.

It really helps players to buy into the culture of work first when there is a tangible plan that the leaders have and when the office football guys and scouts all share a vision with coaches on such. AND those in such positions have the needed time to ride out said plan of action.

Sounds like Daniel Jones is having much better practices vs. the Patriots than he did against us. Our defense seems to be noticeably better compared to last year's. And Baker has been tearing it up all year in camp.

Am I reading too much into practices? YOU BET YOUR ASS I AM

I'd hope our defense is better - it'd be a bummer if we added all of the following (off the top of my head) with similar results as last year:

- Clowney
- Walker
- JOK
- Newsome
- JJ III
- Troy Hill
- Togiai
- Lecounte
- Billings (if he makes the team)
- Greedy
- Delpit

I dont think people read enough into practice sometimes. How you practice is typically how you play, especially in football. It means something that we are tearing it up like that.

It was 1,751 days since Malik McDowell had last played in a football game, but you wouldn’t have known that by watching him.
...
A former elite prospect, McDowell had attitude issues in college, and dealt with injuries and legal issues that tanked his NFL career before it had even begun. After being cut by the Seattle Seahawks in March of 2019, McDowell received a tryout with the Miami Dolphins in October of 2020, but that was all the NFL interest he received until the Browns signed him in May of 2021, after “months of research into him” according to general manager Andrew Berry.
....
It would also be great to see McDowell take some snaps as an EDGE, something he had a lot of success doing in college. Takk McKinley is back with the team, which is good, but the depth behind him is not. McDowell doesn’t have to play there full-time, but having the versatility to play that role in certain sets would be quite valuable.

this is incredible.. what a 180 from just a couple seasons ago

You mean to tell me a Stefanski-led team is an upgrade over being coached by the likes of Bill O'Brien and Romeo Crennel?!

Interesting... does anyone know the financial workings of cutting a player who you placed on IR?

I'd assume their salary becomes guaranteed once they land on IR, and cutting the player is basically only done as a favor to that player if he thinks he can still play in the league this year. It allows Parkey to sign with a different team once healthy.

that is exactly my thought, but i have done no research into it. Or maybe it guarantees his salary but wipes him from the books?

My guess is they come to an injury settlement of some kind. Get some portion of their salary, while getting freedom to go back to work if they feel they are able to return before season's end.
