So... I did pretty good this week. I just don't like Alabama as much as the committee, but other than that, dead on.

Does anyone how the CFP committee determines strength of schedule? I see OSU is ranked 62 and Oregon is 21. Are these computer rankings? They don’t make sense to me. There is no possible way Oregon’s schedule is that much stronger.

Some thoughts on B1G coaching.

Nebraska: So in a year when many expected the Scott Frost experience to come crashing down, somehow it hasn't for what may be the greatest 3 win team of all time (or whatever is being said in Lincoln to help people sleep at night). This situation seems to mirror the Harbaugh extension. Basically, we'll keep you around (for now) because we've finally learned to temper our expectations from the 90s, but we're paying you less and you need a new staff around you. I'd actually like Nebraska to be "back," since it'd be good for the conference and (as someone who wasn't watching when they were dominant) I have felt bad for that dedicated fanbase. But I am not at all convinced Frost is the guy and I feel like they'd need something else to jumpstart the program again. With LSU, Florida, and USC all looking for coaches, it's simply a bad year to enter the sweepstakes, so I get it.

MSU/PSU: The Land Grant Trophy schools have each signed their head coaches to massive 10 year deals. With Tucker, you have a newer coach that has a lot to prove but has exceeded early expectations. Going 2 for 2 against big brother is great, but there is the risk factor of not knowing what his ceiling might be or whether he can sustain success. Franklin, on the other hand, has a good track record with the downside of knowing you're not going to rise to another echelon in the sport with him. Every few years he'll challenge OSU and make a playoff push, but who knows if he'll manage to make it, let alone succeed there. Nobody wants to be post-Bo Nebraska and if you don't have anybody better lined up, why not? (especially considering the programs that could poach him away)

Overall I think these moves are good for stability in our league but I don't see anybody challenging Ohio State as top dog for the next decade right now (I mean long term, we could blow it any given year). I'm not rooting for anyone to knock us off, but it's a shame that we seem to be the only program in the conference that can produce contending teams.

I agree with your post but I’ll push back on this a little.

MSU made the playoff in 2015. Michigan was extremely close to the BCS/playoff in 06, 16 and 18 and is again this year. PSU was close in 05,08 and 16. Iowa was really close in 15 and you could argue 2009 as well. Wisconsin was close in 2017 and I’d argue 2011 as well.

OSU is the only consistent contender, but it does seem that other programs, at their peak, can be occasional contenders.

Definitely fair. Unfortunately, I don’t know if I could see any of those teams actually winning the title. It’s one thing to get by us, but we are the only B1G team with a playoff win or a championship this century. There are other quality programs in the conference, so how long will the wait be to see one of them actually win a national championship?

But I guess that’s a question for other schools to deal with. :chuckle:

And to be fair, outside of the SEC, what other conference has had 2 teams capable of winning a title at a time? FSU had fallen too far by the time Clemson was good enough. Big 12 has always just been Oklahoma, and the pac 12 can’t even get one team in. So we have a solid claim to number 2, I think.

The BIG is and was always clearly the second best conference in the country.

Nebraska beating Iowa at half. If it holds, it opens up a chance for Minnesota to win the west.

Nebraska blows a 12 point second half lead. The finish 1-8 in the B1G despite having a net point differential of exactly 0.

It's so amazing that I think keeping Frost was probably the right move. That's the best bad team I've seen in a while. They are legit close to winning 8 or 9 next year.

Especially if Adrian Martinez comes back

I saw the 2nd half of that game. Man, that was an ugly meltdown. They had a blocked punt returned for a TD, a safety, and two turnovers in the last 20 mins of the game. It had to be brutal for the Husker faithful.
