Eli has allowed one earned run in his last 12 innings and beaten two of the three leading CY candidates - Lance Lynn and Garrett Cole, outpitching both of them by a wide margin in each game. Eli just keeps getting better and better. His line over his last two starts, against the Yankees and White Sox, is 12 IP, 7 H, 1 ER, 1 W, 9 K's.
I thought the big test would be the 6th inning with the top of the order due up to face him for the third time. But he set down Anderson, Robert, and Abreu on five pitched, with Robert striking out on three pitches. Robert is hitting .379 since returning from his injury but he went 0-for-3 against Eli.
Hentges last four appearances have a combined line of 4.2 IP, 3 H, 0 ER, 1 W, 7 K's.
Between Hentges, Francisco Perez, Mejia, Stephan, Sandlin, and maybe Gose we have the makings of a great young bullpen, and that's not even mentioning Clase and Karinchak.
Josie had a great game with 3 RBI's. I was impressed with the way Straw and Amed hustled down the line to beat out infield singles to set up the 3-run rally in the 6th that put the game out of reach.
Shocking to see Gimenez take Lynn deep, but even CY contenders throw bad pitches from time to time.
McKenzie against Lucas Giolito tomorrow. Giolito has allowed 12 ER's in his last 7 starts. This could be a very low scoring game.
