2021 Trade Ideas and Deadline talk!

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Honestly your reply to him actually wasn't needed at the end of the day to begin with. From reading it, you actually came off as degrading and that was the issue with the post that @hockeyjohn was having a problem with. I am sure it's not the way you meant it, but its just how it came across to some people

You could have replied why we could have gotten Olson or just left the start at, some us actually like discussing stuff like this even though it is early in the season...

When it comes to pittsburgh... I actually do not think they will move that way at all. Keller is at the same contract time as McKenzie (just about) so why would they move him?

Pittsburgh is open to moving Moran, Frazier, Polanco, Tyler Anderson, Chad
Coach, you're way nicer than I would be. I agree with CDav's comments and didn't take them as out of turn.

I'm not sure why some people feel the need to judge others' discussions as unworthy ("it's way too early to be discussing this!"). As CDav said, if a poster doesn't like it, then don't participate. If others here want to discuss deadline trades four months in advance, or the color of Shane Bieber's socks, or whatever, that's their prerogative.

As for possible trades: I'm in favor of anything that gets Jake Bauers and Ben Gamel off this team. Beyond that, I'm not nearly as familiar with the league's players as the rest of you are, so this is where I go back to reading and learning more and commenting less.

I pay attention to the personalities on here and CDav has a tendency to come across to people the opposite way he intended to at times. Hockeyjohn doesn't post a lot and isn't normally offended, so from just the tone of the post, it came across the wrong way to him. To me the whole ordeal could have been handled differently to begin with since CDav did call him out a bit which made the tone go south...

None of us (including Hammy on the radio) thought Bauers should be on the team. At least that is the consensus I saw when we heard he made the team. He has to be on a short leash and so far he hasn't helped himself at all. I expect 1B to have a new player there in June area, whether it is internal (Bradley, Naylor) or external (Canha, Olson, Moran, Mancini etc). Indians have the prospects to get just about any player available and with the logjam, they would be willing to move players before they lose them.

Now when it comes to Gamel, I don't think he will play as much as he did at the start of the season. He should be the 5th OF the rest of the way. I personally don't want one of the young guys riding the bench with no ABs. Plus we are a young team and Gamel has been always popular in the clubhouse wherever he has gone. He may have more value than we think that way.

If we end up getting an OF (Happ, Haniger, Canha Gallo, Mancini etc) then someone (Bauers, Gamel) would be moved off the team.

We also don't know where we will be ranked come the trade deadline since if we are out of it, Guys like Eddie, Amed, Hernandez could be moved... We could easily buy and sell even when we are out of it. Right now 22 feels like a playoff year for this team and we hope to get in this season, but 22, we will go for it all again.

Also btw Willie Blair and Ed Taubensee got us Emmanuel Clase haha look it up if you don't believe me when it comes to the trade history..

It isn't enough to target a certain player. The team that has that player has to be a fit for us as a trade partner.

A few thoughts to address previous posts...

1) Without ever seeing him play first base, several posters have said that they don't want to see Naylor at first base, which is his original position...and they base all their trade assumptions on that personal bias.

2) Gallo has a firstbase mitt, and actually uses it sometimes. He can play 1B, 3B, and the OF. The idea that he wouldn't be a logical addition here is based upon #1 above, but also proposed by those that suggest that Jones could play first base. Funny thing...Gallo is Jones on major steroids.

3) Oakland is not a good fit for a trade. Canha is a pure rental. I'd love to have Olson, but the As have a huge hole in the org behind him. They not only don't have a MLB ready power hitting corner bat, they don't have much in the way of outfielders. The only real OFs they have after this season are Laureano and Piscotty. This is a team that kept Kaia Tom, because they had no viable options.

What Oakland needs, we don't have, outside of Jones...and it would take more than Jones to get Olson. Valera is the other option.

3) Does anybody truly think Baltimore would trade Mancini? I don't. Not now after returning from cancer. He is the town hero on a team that has nobody else.

4) No matter what happens between now and the deadline...win, lose, or draw...we are gonna make a trade to acquire an MLB bat. Because we HAVE to. The 40 man situation demands it. We either trade some good young talent, or we watch them playing in Pittsburgh, Baltimore, and other bottom feeder orgs next year, with us holding an empty bag.

The list of young talent we will lose for nothing is in the Jose trade thread, but it would be anything from six to eight prospects in addition to several players that are presently on our 40 man.

5) If you look at our org it is obvious what we won't be trading for. No MIF, no 3B, no DH, no catcher...unless Berto gets hurt...no LF, because we have Eddie.

Which leaves a corner bat and CF. It doesn't matter whether that corner bat plays 1B or the OF. Naylor can play the other one.

6) Normally, a major non deadline roster move is made at the end of a road trip. We start a seven game road trip tonight. I kinda expect we might see one in a week...perhaps addition by subtraction.

I can't, because Blair and Taubensee got us Lofton, which then got us Justice and Grissom, which then reminds me of Grissom completely muffing an easy flyball in the '97 ALCS that almost cost them the series, and that makes me all HULK SMASH! ragey to the point where I get sidetracked from completing the rest of the trade chain.

(Yes, I'm still pissed about a muff almost a quarter-century ago, one made before many people on this site were born or were still shitting their diapers, and one that ultimately didn't decide the outcome of the series. Doesn't say much for my mental state, but here we are.)

I think they go with Amed in center and hope his defense improves rapidly while his bat papers over any deficiencies with the glove.

As for first base I expect them to try and fill that position internally with Chang and Bradley (maybe a platoon) before they make any trades.

If they make a trade at the deadline my guess is it will be a veteran starter on an expiring contract from a non-contending team after McKenzie gets injured or proves he needs to be in the pen.

Wow, you need to get into anger management and process that.

@CATS44

I'd love to add a bat so early in the season, but I doubt we see a trade consumed before the start of the MiLB season. Teams want to have a fresh couple of weeks looks at what they're adding. Gamel makes 1.5M, they won't burn the money before June and Bauers probably gets at least a full month. I'd be happy if we add a bat at the end of May.

Another possibility to use the logjam is to trade for a comp draft pick, especially comp B after round 2. Imagine you're the Orioles or Pirates, would you rather have the pick or, say, Cody Morris and Jose Fermin (or Scott Moss and Jose Tena etc) ....

Just fyi - Milwaukee has a tendency to deal its competitive balance pick.
Since they feel they are contending, getting a piece that is ready/ near ready to help in its push could be incentive to deal its pick again...

Dealing one of our decent MLB ready prospects for a comp pick is a step backward.

So we now have a trade deadline thread on April 11th. In addition to the trade Jose thread. Wonderful idea.

But it's a highly valuable comp A pick, 33rd overall in a deep draft.
SS seems to be their biggest need, maybe LHR options and SP depth.

So, A. Rosario, Chang, Hentges and Moss could be of interest.

I'd consider Rosario straight up for the pick or a switch of picks that includes one or a combination of the others. I'd give them Hentges or Moss+Chang for a switch (trade up from 69 to 33)

I don't want to go full CDAV on you, but considering that half our 26 roster has been acquired via recent trades, what's the harm?

I agree on the Trade Ramirez thread, that is, was and will remain unnecessary to discuss.

Going to be a rough few months for people who don't handle the emotions of player movement that well.
