2021 Trade Ideas and Deadline talk!

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Hilarious! I don't even remember that! I just remember Marquis's homer that won the game in Camden Yards...isn't it odd what we become fixated on? I'm still livid Lofton wasn't sent home to tie the seventh game in the 2007 ALCS in Fenway...I just knew, I KNEW, Casey Blake was going to bang into a double play on the next pitch. And he did. Because the sports gods never reward the timid.
Here ya go. Game 3, series tied one apiece, Tribe up 1-0 in the 9th, Grissom loses the most routine fly ball (in the entire history of routine fly balls) in the lights at the worst possible time.

(To be fair, he did steal home later that game to win it in extra innings; and he did have that GW bomb in Game 2. But that fly ball stands as the one time in my life when I threw something at my TV. In my defense, the "something" was a pillow; and the TV I had at the time sucked, so any excuse to replace it would have been a good one.)

Grissom obviously lost it in the lights - it would have happened to any other player that was out there. And then he stole home to win the game? And he homered to win the previous game? This guy was the hero, not the goat.

Jesus Fuck, dude, lighten up. (And as the announcers pointed out any number of times -- you let your fellow OFs know ASAP if you haven't picked up the ball. You don't stand there like a deer in the headlights.)

So we now have a trade deadline thread on April 11th. In addition to the trade Jose thread. Wonderful idea.
I think the trade Jose thread died on the vine and why does it bother you so? I don't get why anyone would participate in a thread just to criticize the idea of it. Just pass on by peacefully and enjoy another topic. This is the same shit HockeyJohn got offended by and it's nonsensical.

They are not the same person? Next you'll tell me you are not really Carlos Baerga....
If I were Sandy my fucking aura would be glowing in every post I make.

LOL.. Probably with yet another catcher interference call.
How many did Sandy Leon commit in 2020: 6? 7??

More than 1 is too many, especially in a shortened season...

Yeah I generally agree with this. There will always be conversation you disagree with. You don't have to participate in them.

But if you wanted to voice your concerns about trading talent rather than being patient and letting the team grow; have at it. Thats a good opinion as well and this would be a good place to have that conversation as well

And here you dump the same rude comments again. It may be nonsensical to you, but it is not to others and their views have a right to be heard whether or not you agree with them. If you don't agree with our comments, you can just pass on peacefully by as well, yet you continue to want to pick a fight. You are the main reason that I don't visit this site more often. Discussing various baseball opinions is fun. Dealing with bullies is not.

I'm certainly not familiar with whatever this beef is, but was your stance that people shouldn't discuss the validity of trading Jose?

If I have this wrong, my bad. You can just stop here and call me an idiot and not bother to read the rest.

But if I have this right, I'm sorry, but you're in the wrong. In order to have tolerance, you must be intolerant of intolerance. In order to discuss topics, we should not be accepting of those who seek to stop discussion.

More or less hockeyjohn said something about it is way too early to talk about the trade deadline and whatnot and CDav responded with a witty/snide remark to it, which went a bit overboard in some peoples minds (it wasnt necessary the way it was said). So that created tension between the two... Aka they need to stay away from each other for a moment/personalities don't mesh well.

I mean I started the trade thread since some people like to talk about it, CDav, me and some others like to just discuss what could happen. So in that sense Hockeyjohn wasn't right about his comment, but CDavs comment wasn't needed in response.

We all want an upgrade over Gamel, Bauers etc and in the lineup in general, so I expect some type.of trade to happen, but for whom or what we do, that's definitely something we have no clue yet so it's fun to discuss

My original comment was not on trading Jose. My comment was that I found it humorous that some want to trade Jose with three years of control, yet others wanted to add Matt Olson who has three years of control and will eventually become more costly than Jose is. I have stated that the only Jose Ramirez trade now better be a tremendous overpay or the Indians should hang on to him. Making a move for a Matt Olson type player who will soon become expensive is also atypical of the Indians. Our beef has nothing to do with Jose Ramirez. Discussions are great and that is why I come to this site as I have followed the Indians since 1965. I also commented that talking trade deadline moves in mid April seemed too early to me in my opinion.

My beef is not on the discussion, but on the way some individuals express their viewpoints. Rudeness and bullying are two things that I will always fight back on. There is no place where those ideals should be accepted. That is where my beef lies. I hope that helps.

I try to frame my discussion with the Indian front office in mind and their way of doing business. I expect the Indians to sort through their current options first, before making any move. If and when they decide to make a move, in my opinion, it will likely be a short term add rather than a Matt Olson type of add. That type of move would be so atypical of the Indians, trading for a player that will be soon very costly. We will see what happens. I still think it is too early to discuss this but to each his own.

People took your post as the we don't need to discuss this now. I saw you actually supported your reasoning but some others didn't see it all the way through to the end sadly

I mean in all honesty, you aren't wrong since they try to not leave any rock unturned but at the same time, I think the Indians want to improve now plus they have a ton of guys they will lose if they don't make a move. Olson actually is someone they can afford between the fact the nucleus of the team are on cheap/early contracts and they have a ton of prospects they cannot protect. I feel a Miller type of trade is very possible and since we really need someone in the lineup, putting a Olson with a Reyes and JRam is a very scary thought. Olson is also gold glove at 1B, so that would make the INF great for the heavy pitching we have so he would improve the roster in multiple ways.

went back to the post.

Hockeyjohn's post was fine. He thinks it's too early to discuss "trade deadline" things a handful of days into the season.

CDAV's post flew off the handle.

Let's continue.

What we all don't know is how much the pandemic has affected what the Indians can and will do. We had Sherman as the minority owner in 2016 and a team that was a definite playoff contender so the Miller move made a lot of sense. With that said, a reliever like Miller, would not cost down the line, what a player like Olson would cost. An Olson move would only make sense to me if we keep Jose rather than trade him like some here want to do. Can the Indians afford both Jose and Olson's arbitration raises in 2022 and beyond? What we all need to do is pray that the Indians can find a minority owner that can inject some cash into the team. We will see what happens. Hopefully the team will still be in the running so a move can be made.

As a frame of reference, I try to stay in the framework of how the Indians operate so I don't get too disappointed on what happens. I guess that comes from 30 years of bad baseball in the 60's through 80's.
