2022 College Football Season/Playoff Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I don't mind Georgia not dropping.

As of today, they have what is by far the best win of the season. Oregon has only went and made that win look better and better and better.

I feel like it's Alabama who should have dropped below OSU a few weeks ago after the Texas game.

I mean, I get the joke, but I think everyone already knew Wisconsin was pretty bad this year before today. They looked like the worst team OSU has played all year.

This might be a "Fire the coach" game though. I wouldn't be surprised if he's fired later this week.

Called that one.

Can't lose at home to Illinois by a million points as Wisconsin.

REALLY can't do it when they're being coached by Bielema.

Nebraska AND Wisconsin firing their coaches mid-season.

Not a good B10 year at this point.

I like Ohio State's chances this year. No one looks like a juggernaut right now, Bama and Georgia are just very good, not special. Once JSN gets back to 100% I think that will help the passing game a lot. Stroud needs to be sharper but the o line and running game looks dominant.

Not a good year for the B1G West.

B1G East is what we thought it was, just with MSU and MD flip flopping.

Going to be really interesting to see who are candidates at Nebraska and Wisconsin.

Lance Leipold is going to be the hot name for both jobs if Kansas continues to play well as he has history both places. He was an assistant at Nebraska under Solich. He was also born and raised in Wisconsin, was a GA at Wisconsin, and coached DIII in both Nebraska and Wisconsin.

Bill O’Brien probably gets interviewed for both jobs. Same for Rhule.

I do wonder if either of these jobs would get Fickell’s attention. His budget at either school would be at least 50% more than at Cinci.

Games of great import, week 6:

TCU @ Kansas, noon, FS1: Battle of the undefeateds, just like everyone predicted. TCU drubbed Oklahoma last week, and beat a solid SMU team. Kansas has beaten WVU, Duke and Iowa St. I would guess that Baylor and Okie State are destined for a rematch in the B12 Championship game, but the winner of this game is very much in the discussion.

Tennessee @ LSU, noon, ESPN: Tennessee leads the nation in yards per game and is 4th in yards per play. QB Hendon Hooker is tied for the lead in yards per attempt. Now, the schedule has been 2 MAC teams, a Pitt team that just lost to Georgia Tech and Florida. LSU is ranked solely because they beat Miss St, who is solely ranked because they beat Texas AM, who was fraudulently ranked to begin with. Not sure if we'll learn much more about Tennessee in this one.

Auburn @ Georgia, 3:30, CBS: Only here because Georgia has been wonky 2 weeks in a row. Beat Kent St at home by 17 then won @ Mizzou by 4. Auburn actually beat Mizzou in OT earlier, so this is another opponent Georgia should crush. UGA fell a spot after the last 2 weeks, and if they struggle again, another drop isn't unwarranted. Bryan Harsin outlasting at least 5 P5 coaches so far this year is a bit of an upset.

Utah @ UCLA, 3:30, FOX: HUGE tilt in the Pac 12. 2 of the 4 remaining unbeatens in conference play. Utah has been rolling since an opening night loss @ Florida. UCLA played their first real team last week and derailed the Penix express. Both teams still have to play Oregon and USC, so the loser is in a bit behind the 8 ball.

BYU vs ND, 7:30, NBC: Game being played in Vegas. With Wisconsin and MSU falling apart, and Iowa underwhelming, OSU's SOS could use a shot in the arm. ND still has Clemson and USC, so probably need to win this one for any shot at 9 wins.

Texas AM @ Bama, 8, CBS: This was supposed to be the most anticipated game of the regular season, after AM pulled the upset last year and the Jimbo/Saban NIL kerfuffle of the summer. However, Texas AM has been brutally bad on offense and is a doinked FG away from being 2-3. Bryce Youngis 'day to day' according to Saban. Bama was able to eventually pull away from Arkansas last week with their backup QB. I don't know if Texas AM can score double digits in this game.

If ever there were a time for a big, big name to go and try to revive Nebraska, I'd think this would be it.

Oklahoma is, finally, down.

It's no coincidence that Oklahoma's rise in the very early 2000s timed right up with Nebraska's descension.

They took all of recruits that used to go to Nebraska.

Remarks of absolutely no import (whatsoever)

-please refrain from criticizing any program led by Mike Leach. Mississippi State should be welcomed to the National AP discussion regardless of merit. They are exempt from the typical frustration we incur when it comes to over ranked SEC programs. Please align.

-the big 12 is entertaining as hell this season; I love seeing Kansas have this nice season but I think a wake up call is in store: I think TCU rolls like they’re on molly.

-at this point in their “respective” tenures, Kevin Sumlin’s employment was terminated with a better record than what Jimfuckbob Fishee has now. His buyout is 90 million goddamn dollars. That dude is going nowhere and right now apparently reports to no one. He will lose to Alabama by 4 touchdowns, go home to fuck his wife then sleep soundly thereafter.

-is UM @ IU seriously the big noon kick off on fox? Fuck out of here lol

-Tennessee has a let down with LSU; Brian Kelly exhibits a hubris unlike any we’ve ever seen. A young promising student goes missing on LSU’s campus shortly thereafter

Is Ewers playing in the RRS? Does it matter? Why isn’t that the big noon kickoff?

I’d really consider it if I’m Fickell. OSU, PSU, and Mich aren’t coming open anytime soon. If you wanted to coach in the Big 10 soon, Nebraska is probably the job you want. IMO, Nebraska can be a better job than PSU with the right coach, and Fickell’s philosophy and demeanor is a great fit for what that program has been historically.

Given the coming change in the playoff format, it might be easier to make the playoffs finishing as the 3rd or 4th best team in the Big 10 than it will be to make it by winning the Big 12 at Cinci. I’d have to guess in most years the Big 12 gets in just the champion and a 2nd team sneaks in every now and then.

Call me a conspiracy theorist, but I don’t find it coincidence that the 2 teams heading to the SEC aren’t featured on the B1G flagship network

The Big Ten has got to up its QB talent after OSU.

Right now Taugavoila feels like the 2nd best QB in the conference. And that's not very good.

He'd be like, the 6th or 7th best QB in the SEC right now.

Mccarthy was a composite 5 star recruit and starred at IMG. He's flashed the accuracy, arm strength and mobility.

If given the choice, I wouldn't want Taugavoila over him. I don't know where that lands him in the conference pecking order for second best QB in a conference but I think Mccarthy has shown glimpses of having some serious juice. Probably more a question of if the offense will open up in a meaningful way, relative to his personal talent.

I’d take Mcarthy in MD offense well before I’d take Taugavoila in Michigans offense.

Yeah, to me, their physical tools just aren't comparable.

That isn't to say Taugavoila is bad or anything, McCarthy just has more unique talents.

JJ is far from a finished product but his arm talent, athleticism and processing has just really been on display this year.

Michigan's scheme doesn't really let a QB rack up large counting stats but all of Mccarthy's advanced stats are just really good.

I would expect Michigan to let McCarthy do a little more each week but so far, they have been pretty conservative game plan wise.

Very much this. If Mike Locklsey had Michigans defense and run game, Taugaviola would have less counting stats.
