2022 NBA Draft Safari

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Watching some initial Jalen Duren tape, it is bonkers he has yet to even turn 18.

Needs shot development but a wild collection of athleticism, strength and defensive tools.

Duren looks like a cross between a young Chris Webber & a young Amare Stoudemire.

I like his frame, his athleticism........but I'll most closely be watching his passing talent and hustle.

Without showing some creation and hustle flash, I would be far cooler on him than most experts probably will be.

My main takeaway from last night was he had 0 assists, 0 blocks and 0 offensive rebounds.

If he is simply a Carmelo Anthony type forward, I personally think that type of player doesn't have a great place moving forward in the modern NBA.

Again, one game.......but that is more of what I want to see. The most valuable bigs all exhibit hustle qualities at minimum. Most also exhibit passing flash.
Banchero is impressive. He’s very skilled and was bringing the ball up a number of times for Duke at 6’10” 250. Seems like he likes playing on the perimeter and can get his shot whenever he wants. He had to come out of the game for awhile due to cramps. He’s got the frame of an NBA PF, but the game of a SF. The Cavs aren’t gonna sniff him, Duren, or Holmgren, but I’ll still be watching to see how they do.

I watched the UK-Duke game and here's a few other guys of note:

AJ Griffin, Duke- 2 points & 2 boards in 11 mins; didn't stand out.
Daimion Collins, Kentucky- played only 2 mins and is supposedly very raw- think this year's Kai Jones.
Trevor Keels, Duke- this kid is a sleeper; strong, tough defensively, & has a pretty good shot he plays more like a junior than a freshman; dare I say he reminds me some of Dion Waiters.

Yeah, if the early returns are any indication, late lottery seems more like the floor.

None of these guys are likely for the Cavs but we'll see what happens.

I missed Daniels made his debut.

Was hoping he'd be a guy that landed in the Cavs zone of the 1st but I suspect if he plays like this, he will not be. :(

Yeah, my big neutral/negative takeaway from last night was that I’m not sure how impactful he will be defensively at his size. He doesn’t look particularly long or bouncy, so he may not be a great help defender? I got some Jabari Parker vibes maybe?

He looks like a ready made scorer if/when he can extend the range to 3 though. Again, I’ve watched him a grand total of one time so I’m not really sold either way.

Yeah, that is more of where I am at.

Really intriguing set of tools, I'm just more wait and see on him as a #1 overall pick type.

Aside from the annoying guy going 'BOOOOM' everytime someone made a 3, making it feel more like the And-1 Tour than a G-League game, those were some impressive highlights from Daniels. He's smooth and shows a real nice stroke from the outside. I need to watch some more of him.

He's an interesting player.

Has a great frame, great kid, creation skill, good competitor......his swing skill is his shooting.

If he shows he can reliably shoot from the outside, he will probably become one of the risers of this class.

I've seen him slotted in the 20 range, which seems way too low to me.

Curious to follow his development.

A take I've been playing around with is that offensively we want to surround Mobley with multiple elite movement and off the dribble 3 point shooters, with the idea that we want to put Mobley in space and in 4 on 3 situations. This both takes him away from his biggest weakness (trying to play through contact) and puts him in positions of his biggest strength (short roll decision making, already absolutely elite). Garland is a perfect fit in terms of this if he takes even more pull up 3s for example.

With all that said, the profile of Patrick Baldwin seems incredibly tempting from what little I've seen. Maybe he's not an elite athlete, but his high IQ and shot mechanics at his size seem tailor made for us. Too bad he's probably long gone by the time we draft.

Guess the real question for 22, besides where is the Cavs 1st round pick falling, is do they package the Rockets and Spurs 2nds to move up into the late 1st for the extra contract year.

Lot of intriguing ready to play college seniors and juniors that should be picked in that area.

Smart teams treat early 2nd round picks the same as late 1st round picks, at least in terms of how they structure them.

Not sure if anyone else is watching but the talent level at Michigan is ridiculous.

Both Houstan and Diabate look as advertised.
