2022 NBA Draft Safari

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I desperately want this guy to play just well enough, that he's there at the Cavs pick. :chuckle:

Looks like there are a lot of wings who can shoot and defend to some level this year that might be pushed down because all of the bigs and guards in this draft. Fingers crossed that one of them falls to us.

Just simply fluidity of movement is why I love Houstan so much.

He's 6'8" but moves laterally like a point or combo guard.

I wish I had the time to just make his defensive highlight video.

He's so good at cutting off angles, being active with his hands and playing good all around defense.

I suspect the playmaking flash (if it keeps up), would get him drafted far higher than we will be selecting unfortunately but fingers crossed.

He moves far better/smoother than I thought he would, based on his HS tape. I thought he'd need to be a college PF, but he looks every bit of a pro wing. He's on my list of several full sized wings that can shoot, score and not be a liability on D.

Paolo is the prize from this draft. Chet is intriguing but Paolo is the dude. But I don’t expect the Cavs to have a realistic shot at winning the lottery..if we even are in the lottery which I actually think we may just be a playoff team for real this year.

That being said, this is a relatively deep draft in terms of wings.

I have my eye on Patrick Baldwin Jr. 6’9. Long. Explosive. Shoots the 3. Good defender.

He is a guy I could see slipping to the back of the lottery because of the school he’s at…the overall competition he’s going to face is going to be much lower compared to other guys.

That’s the type of guy I would want the Cavs to maybe package their, say, #15th-18th pick and next years first top 10 protected to move up into the top 10 to snag. He’s a guy I’m laser focused on as a potential undervalued guy we can land.

One big reason I'm so against trading the '22 pick is exactly what you outlined here: the potential move to trade up in the draft and snag a legitimate talent to be the cherry on top of this roster sundae.

I really like Watson as well. Who should be someone who is in that 10-12 range.

He is likely to see a little more limited opportunity with how loaded UCLA is on the wing but I really like his mix of size, skill, defense.

You'd hope the Cavs would at least have an outside shot of one of PBJ, Houstan or Watson.

I also like TyTy as a plan B fit with Garland, in the event we don't extend Collin.

I see Banchero & Holmgren as 1a & 1b in this draft. Both guys are about on Mobley's level.

Houstan looks real good from that video. Nice size, fluidity, & shooting stroke. He's one to watch.

Wasn't impressed by the little I saw of AJ Griffin, although I understand he's coming off a knee injury. The kid has battled alot of injuries, which is bothersome.

I need to see Watson & Baldwin play.

When it's all said & done, I think the Cavs will be picking in the mid to late teens, as they're too good to be a lottery team this year. 3 sleepers, in that range, that I have my eye on are Ousmane Dieng, Bennedict Mathurin, & Josh Minott.

Very impressive, crisp passing and the shot mechanics are clearly there.

Length and lateral quickness, quick twitch jump.

Would like to see him be more aggressive offensively going to the hoop. Very very impressive young player.

That team is TOUGH.

In terms of prospects…Mobley and Banchero are 1a/1b, I’d put Chet on a plane slightly below them.
Mobley will be a more dominant defensive player while Paolo really has the opportunity to become a dominant perimeter scorer.

They really belong together in the NBA . If the Cavs succumb to an epic amount of injuries(to the point where it’s Mobley, Garland and Dean Wade with a bunch of D leaguers) and end up in the high lottery again…I’d be disappointed because of how good we looked to start the season but if we won the lottery and threw Paola Banchero into our starting small forward spot…..then we’d truly be set. Or even better, if we are a late lotto team so we enjoy a decent level of success and play but ultimately lose the play in tournament….and then strike gold and win the lottery from like the 13th slot…that would be “the dream”…lol

Banchero has the game of a SF and the body of PF. I think he can play SF right now, but is he going to keep getting bigger & filling out even more? It’s fun to dream about pairing him with Mobley, but I don’t see the Cavs as being anywhere close to bad enough to be in contention for a top pick. I really think we’re a playoff team this year.

i haven’t gotten to see Holmgren yet, but can’t wait to watch him. I hear he’s like a poor man’s KD.

Ive been saying it for awhile PBJ is a perfect fit. Excellent shooter (can do so off the dribble), solid finisher, can pass when needed & very intelligent player. I chalk that up to being the son of a coach. He was actually offered a scholarship from Duke when he was 16. IIRC he was the youngest player to ever get an offer from Duke.

He chose Milwaukee to play for his father & represent his city. He's a firm believer that if you're talented, they will find you. He even made a few comments that are through the roof on the "gets us" meter; "Just seeing him in a small market and seeing how he changed a city like this," Baldwin Jr. said, "is something that really influenced me to come to [Milwaukee]." "With all due respect to the other schools that recruited me, I've never been a guy that's been all about the bright lights," Baldwin Jr. said. "I still come to play when the lights are on, but I'm not a guy that needs the hype to play well."

He also has ties to international competition that Koby is so fond of. He was apart of the FIBA Under 19 team this past year.

He has to be the 1A/1B target with Banchero. Banchero because of talent, but PBJ because he is literally the perfect fit on the court, in the city, & with the FO.

IMO it's way too early to put Banchero on Mobley's tier as a prospect just yet. Mobley was probably my favorite prospect since AD, and maybe the most obvious unicorn prospect I can ever recall. I don't think I need to sell anyone here on his game anymore.

I need to see more from Banchero to elevate him to the similar tier -- and I was super impressed with his debut, like everyone else. But as @I'mWithDan noted, he had 0 assists, which is unacceptable for a perimeter player that handles the ball as much as Banchero. If he's truly going to be this point-forward star at the next level that many project him to be, I need to see that high BBIQ and play-making ability the rest of the season. To me, that will be the difference in him being a no-brainer number 1 pick, or just a very good top-5 pick prospect.

And I have no idea what to think of Chet yet. He put up huge numbers against a school I've never heard of, but man, he and Poku have way too similar of body types for comfort. He's the type of player that you have to hold your breath every time he's out there that he doesn't get injured tripping over himself. But I'm definitely intrigued with the "7-foot guard" archetype that can defend the rim.
