2022 NBA Draft Safari

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Our next 1st round pick will be important, but will in no way have the same impact as Evan Mobley. Let's not get crazy!

Lot of nice players in this draft who could really take this team to the next level...

I don’t want to lose games but at the same time picking high in the draft is our only chance of getting a stud wing on the roster. We don’t have valuable traceable assets given Sexton’s injury/pending extension and Okoro’s poor performance. We’re not a destination location for free agents. And I don’t trust our scouting ability to get a gem outside the top 10.

Can you imagine Jabari Smith’s defense and length next to Mobley and Allen who already offer plenty of that? And if this dude’s shooting is for real, holy fuck. Even if Smith is a pipe dream, it’s looking like there will be some nice SGs and SFs in the top 10, as well.
What about Lequit?

This Gonzaga-Duke game is hype. Anyone else watching? Curious to see how Chet looks against an NBA sized frontcourt.

So far...not good. Banchero looks impressive on offense ngl. Defensively though, he doesn't seem like an impact player.

With Chet, it isn't really about what he is now. It is what he will be 2-3 years down the road.

He's certainly not ready to physically (strength) go against more mature players......but I honestly have been impressed with his pure skill impact.

Hate watching college officials in these games. Chet went out with 2 fouls relatively early, Banchero has 2 fouls too......it is tiresome to see guys in matchups like these get saddled by fouls. College game needs more physicality IMO.

My concern with Chet though is that his frame is like the worst I've ever seen relative to height from an NBA player. When Durant was at Texas he was about 2 inches shorter than Chet yet 20 pounds heavier. And KD was rail thin. So that goes to illustrate just how narrow Chet's bone structure really is. Realistically the kid is gonna need to get to put on another 30 pounds just to not get pushed out of the way on both ends in the NBA, but then how is that weight going to affect his mobility? I also don't think it's a guarantee he'll be able to pack on mostly muscle over fat due to how awkward his build is. When you look at a guy like Davis, he had the broad shoulders that could support weight gain a lot better without sacrificing his athleticism, not to mention he was so gifted in that area he could spare a little bit of it.

I can envision Chet not being able to take advantage of his unique skills in the league because he's not big enough to play center full-time and he's not mobile enough to play the 3 or guard the position. And then at the 4, I'm not sure he presents as many mismatch advantages as he would at those other two positions, so what if simply ends up a spot up 4 who can't do damage inside and is purely a rim protector on defense without having the mobility/instincts/strength/defensive versatility to be much more than that on that end?

1. Jabari Smith Jr
2. Jaden Ivey
3. Keegan Murray

That's my top three right now. Just not high on Banchero or Chet personally.

Probably, but remember it's now easier to get into the top from the middle now. He likely won't have the same upside as Mobley but he could still be a very important player that is part of the core.

I should've been more clear. I don't think 3 rookies will be playing, or having big roles on the team in 2022. My statement was more in expressing that I want to keep those picks and use them on players, rather than selling/trading them. I'd love Koby to build homegrown depth and have players to develop.

My combo ideal/realistic lineup for 2022 is:
pg-Garland, Rubio, 2nd rounder
sg-Okoro, Sexton, Windler
sf-Lotto pick, Cedi, Stevens
pf-Mobley, Lauri, Wade
c-JA, Love, 2nd rounder
I can agree, with the caveat that if one/both of those second rounders are needed to move up in the first to get the guy they really want, they shouldn't hesitate.

That said, the depth in this draft seems to work in the Cavs' favor in that:

a. They should be able to get a useful wing with their FRP, wherever it lands in the draft order;

b. Those two SRPs should be able to bring in a couple of role players. Grab a couple of upperclassmen who can do one or two things really well and who know how to play. With those picks, I really wouldn't be interested in flyers on guys who might be good someday. I'd rather get (perceived) lower-ceiling, higher-floor guys who can slot into their roles.

Also, and I don't know the draft well enough to know if they need to use a SRP pick on him or can get him as a street free agent, but I'd be interested in bringing in Isaiah Mobley. Not just as the Thanassis to Evan's Giannis, but as a backup big man who comes from a good hoops family, has solid fundamentals, and has been well-coached. You could do a lot worse for the 15th spot on the roster.

Generally, next year's offseason should be the time to push a lot of chips to the center of the table. If they need to use future picks or current players to get to where they need to be, they should go for it. Add a quality wing to the Evan-Garland-JA core, fill in the gaps with some role players, and let's get back to playing ball well into the spring.

I also like Jaden Ivey a lot. What do you guys think of him? Supremely athletic, relentless motor, good defense, and fantastic playmaking at the SG position. Shot is currently a question mark but it’s far from broken, so it’s not an Okoro-like situation.

He is shorter at 6’4 with only a 6’7 wingspan but I think he and Garland could be a good fit together in the backcourt. He has the kind of angry aggression to his game that DG and Mobley lack.
Every year we fall in live with a short skilled guard.. I would be more interested in a taller guard with demonstrated range.. Someone mentioned Kendal Brown for example...

I am impressed with the length in the NCAA crowd this year.. I have started a spread sheet with the min requirements being 6'7 200 lbs and 33% three point range in at least one college season.. I am at 26 so far. Younger guys still evolving from three..

We are currently slated to picknup 14 second round players over the next five years.. and that is without trading any further asset, like the re-emerged Love, or Sexton, or Rubio..

It would not break my heart to pick up three wings in this draft.. a late first round, an early second rounder ( Houstons) and a mid to late second.. I have already said my criteria are 6'7 or longer, demonstrated 3 pt and ft %. I would order my picks by nba body readiness, defensive effort, and youth. I think we will find seniors in that second round..

Brandon Slater, would likely be gettable.. he is a senior, but only 22, and has really stepped up so far this season..

Right. Truthfully, with where we will end up picking, the guy we draft is more likely to be playing in the G-League, than with the Cavaliers, to start the season.

Jabari Walker. Father NBA Champion Samaki Walker.
This draft class seems loaded too.

I'm digging Max Christie. Add him to my list. 6'6 SG that can shoot, dribble, pull up, escape dribble into a midrange. Mother & Father both played Collge Basketball.

Is he a “legit” 6’6???? I really like his game! “Beal” like game.
