2022 NBA Draft Safari

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
ESPNs latest mock—

It’s early but seems like there’s a pretty clear picture shaping up already—

- Chet, Jabari, Banchero, Ivey, Murray and Sharpe are locks for top-7..

- Daniels to Spurs at 9 and Dieng to OKC at 12 make a ton of sense..

- Williams/Duren is going to be linked to Charlotte the whole process..

- Mathurin seems like a fit with OKC or NYK, and maybe WAS if Beal is traded…

- Agbaji, Branham, Chandler and Washington seem to be safe bets to be there at 14…

- AJ Griffin and Eason seem to be the biggest wildcards right now, with ranges of top-5 to being there at 14 (more so Eason then Griffin)..

Any concerns that Jabari will essentially be a 2020's version of Marvin Williams? Just a physical comp that came to mind. I can't remember what Williams athleticism was considered to be coming out in that 2005 draft so maybe that's the key area that separates the two and give Jabari a higher ceiling?

Even without the unlikely lottery luck, the Cavs are in a great spot at 14 to draft an impact starting wing.

The top 6 is likely looking like Chet, Jabari, Banchero, Ivey, Sharpe, and Murray in some order.

Of the next batch, Sochan, Dieng, Daniels, Mathurin, Griffin, and Eason are all super intriguing to me. We only need two of Jalen Duren, Mark Williams, Johnny Davis, and TyTy Washington to be selected before our pick to guarantee that one of those six fall to us, which I think is pretty likely.

Exciting times!

Let’s just be real — this is most likely our last chance to get an actual wing with potential. They are almost impossible to trade for and FA as we all know is not a thing. If we don’t pick someone 6’6”-6’9” then we’ll have a hole there until the next time we’re in the lotto (Bron re-reunion excluded). Please do not fuck this up.

OKC is set up really nicely.
Giddey - Shai - Jabari(?)/Chet - Dieng(?), possibly consolidating 30/34 to move up to a preferred target?

Depending on who Charlotte is thinking of with the 13th pick, maybe Cavs and Thunder can swap picks (12th -> 14th) so the Cavs can secure their player before Charlotte takes him and the Hornets second option isn't who OKC wants?

I don't really foresee any team from 9 down being interested in trading down and by the opposite token I think there is some wiggle room from 10-15. Could be way off base... Just some initial thoughts.

Really happy we know the exact order now!

I can see it pan out like this.
So, yes, one of the good wings should be available for us to pick.

Griffin dropping to 14 would be pretty crazy. IMO. I highly doubt it. He seems like a sure fire too 10 pick even though im personally not as high on him as I am some others.

I would be kicking the tires on Sacramento.

Ivey, to me, is the BPA at #4......then another drop off.

I'm curious if they would have any interest in moving down, if they didn't love him.

#14, Future unprotected 1st, some other asset (Sexton?)

Jabari is nowhere near as stiff as Williams was. He’s on another level as a shooter and an athlete as well.

I really like Jabari. I think he will be much better putting the ball on the floor with NBA spacing and an off-season of work.

Is there potentially any interest in a jaden hardy? I know he is smaller(6’4 w/out shoes) but he is already a great scorer and is SG sized. If this year and Dallas’ current run has taught us anything, it’s that you can never have too many playmakers.

I’m worried about branham’s lack of athleticism and Ochai is old with defensive issues. I know both are good fits in terms of shooting but they seem to have lower ceilings. I’ve always been of the mindset of take the highest potential guy unless your contending right now and we currently are not. Hardy was an 18 year old playing against grown men and it showed early on but he had no spacing near him and was shouldering a Garland-Esque offensive load. He would thrive here where he won’t be the primary target of the defense. And he gives us insurance for either Sexton or Lavert or both being shipped inevitably as a offensive creator….

And we all know Koby has a thing for undersized guards who are hard-workers……

Griffin feels like a guy comfortably sitting in that second tier behind Chet/Jabari/Paolo. Funny, can't help but think about wanting the Cavs to sign his father to come off the bench when LBJ was a baby. Griffin ended up one of the most respected development coaches in the NBA. His kid seems to be on the "son of a player" track to play in the NBA a very long time. I don't think he's there at 14.

I'm with @"MVP" that anyone in the third tier who drops has me excited. This could be the last time the Cavs are in the lottery for the next decade. I've wanted a 3 and D project for a few years. This seems like the place to get our unexciting Mikal Bridges type.
