I was just thinking, partially from observing Miller today... what Miller and Kwan's flaws are and how they may be exploited.

Miller is strangely passive on strikes compared to how likely he is to chase pitches. I think overall his approach works fine and he'll be a good enough hitter but there's definitely room for improvement which just doesn't mean relying on his very plus bat-to-ball skills.

Kwan has overall just been too passive, to where he is letting strike 1 and 2 go by and then making a lot of soft contact on 2 strike pitches. I think some of this really changed with the attention he had on him like anxiety is interfering with his ability to attack early meatballs. In Spring Training and even the first few games of the regular season I didn't notice that as much.

Either way I don't think I would hesitate right now to call them two out of the four strongest hitters on the team. That, of course, could easily change, but they do just seem to have a knack for hitting the ball.

Austin Hedges had more hits this weekend than Steven Kwan.

He is a lotto ticket for a poorly performing Cesar Hernandez at last seasons deadline.
With the other players on the roster I make the trade 100x out of 100 chances..

If he pans out & does well, great for CLE. If not, we move onto another option.

Giants sweep 3-0 and outscored the Guards 16-4. Obviously the Guardians are not on the same level as the team that led the majors with 107 wins last year and have the lowest ERA in baseball since the start of the 2021 season.

Civale has no margin for error at the Tomlinesque velocity he's working at. If he keeps everything on the margins he's fine but as soon as he leaves a breaking ball belt high in the center of the dish it's sayonara.

Bradley needs a new mitt. That ball was a high hopper and got wedged in his glove. That should never happen. The only time I've ever seen that was on a very hard hit ball. Then he totally whiffs on a low throw from Miller on a potential inning ending double play.

I'm concerned that Gose's fastball, although very fast, is too straight. Naquin hit one over the center field fence in Cincy and one of the Giants lined one into the left field corner. He needs to locate it better.

I called it correctly - today was the day a Guardians catcher finally got a hit. I noticed Hedges only struck out once in his last six at-bats so I figured he was seeing the ball better.

Hopefully we'll be more competitive against the White Sox but they're 6-2.

A bit more cross fire than what would be considered a long term health maintaining delivery.. As an RP, this can work and it's particularly effective against LHH's when he starts that frisbee slider at their right hip... The FB could use a little more movement and ever so slightly better command, imho.. When he's spotting it up against his slider... it can be devastatingly effective..

Without a doubt.. there's some "there" there.. Agree we need to see more to fully understand what he can do.. and, almost as important, what he can't..

agree.. the sooner the Giants Series debacle disappears from these forums.. the better..

I think we all wish they made a splash... but they got outbid for their targets so essentially we are stuck with rookies trying to prove themselves. The future is great, but it's hard to say when exactly everyone will start proving themselves...
I’m tired of hearing “the future”. The team screwed up and when the “future” is ready to compete, Jose will be old and no where close to what he is now and Bieber will probably be a year out from pinstripes.
Our future was ready in 2016 and flamed out by 2018. It’s a sham. The whole team and name change is a sham. They pissed off a lot of the fans but selling off and not resigning players and having the lowest payroll in baseball last season, then changing the name this season with ZERO plan to get better. They lost a LOT of fans and don’t seem to even care.

He's been a workhorse since turning pro. Like the biggest share of SP coming out of ST, his arm isn't fully built up. He'll sit 92-94 when it is. He misses a lot of bats, limits hits and has carried a very solid WHIP. He's a good SP prospect with the body to log a lot of innings. He is not a FOR SP and should not be looked at as such if you're trying to be realistic. However, he could be an extremely good 4 or 5 IMO.

He's an interesting fella. Like what I see out of the bullpen, maybe just roll with it?

He threw some pretty good pitches, and anyone that can pile in should. Hopefully.

You couldn't be more wrong about everything. You might have to tolerate some bumps and bruises this season as the young talent filters up around the core of Jose, Straw, and Reyes. The rotation is set for yrs, but some of them won't be able to fend off guys like Espino, Williams, Battenfield, and LT Allen. Valera, Rocchio, Tena, Espino, Allen, Burns, Curry, Cantillo, and Naylor all in Akron. I can pretty much guarantee that a few of those will spend significant time in Columbus. It's quite possible that a couple see time in Cleveland in the 2nd half. These aren't your run of the mill, ho-hum prospects. Columbus has Freeman, Jones, Arias, OGon, Battenfield, LT Allen, Myers, Palacios, and Fermin who all have a possibility of being good big league players.

This team has so much talent soon to make an impact that it's difficult to determine where to even add to right now because it could be blocking a very good prospect that could potentially have an impact. I'll tell you a good comparison of the condition of this team and that's the 1994 team except this one has way better pitching. It's not even close my friend.

So where are the holes in this current roster? RF? Naylor is back with Jones and Valera on the horizon. C? Lavastida is going to be a much better hitter than anything we've had since Gomes once he settles in, but they could use a good starter for sure. 1B? Miller has been manning that mostly and Naylor is back. SS? You have Amed and Gimenez now, but they aren't long for the job with Arias, Rocchio, and Tena either ready or close to it. 2B? I look for Miller to get the majority of the time there with Naylor back, but again you already have Gimenez with Rocchio, Tena, and Freeman damn near ready. CF, 3B, SP, BP, LF are all pretty much locked down already.

You can bail if you want, but it would be stupid because this organization has never been better positioned to become a perennial power house than it is now. It's coming and I would hate for you to miss it because you don't know what's happening and just living in the moment.

I don't know why you would ever want to limit him to a BP role unless there was a need and right now there isn't. He needs to be in Columbus' rotation.
