2022 Season | Series #3 | Giants @ Guardians | April 15-17, 2022

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I’m tired of hearing “the future”. The team screwed up and when the “future” is ready to compete, Jose will be old and no where close to what he is now and Bieber will probably be a year out from pinstripes.
Our future was ready in 2016 and flamed out by 2018. It’s a sham. The whole team and name change is a sham. They pissed off a lot of the fans but selling off and not resigning players and having the lowest payroll in baseball last season, then changing the name this season with ZERO plan to get better. They lost a LOT of fans and don’t seem to even care.

Actually they are borderline WC this season and actual contenders next season... We have a top 5 starting staff, and too many prospects to keep... We are almost forced to make a trade next season. We gotta figure out what we have so we can figure out what we actually need to get in a trade.

The funny part about that low payroll... we finished above teams with triple our payroll. Plus we would have been in the wild card hunt easily if we had healthy starters... We had a ton of injuries in 21... The low payroll was a mix of Covid (its a business and they lost money in 20) and the fact we have a ton of pre-arb players... We had one of the youngest teams in baseball and went 80-82, with our top 3 starting pitchers missing time. Add the starters in, we are in the wild card play in...

Also why look at PAYROLL as a win-loss indicator??? Rays have always had a bottom 5 payroll... yet have been in the wild card if not division winners for a fair amount of years now. Payroll for sure helps fill in holes, but tell me which roster would you have had over the last decade, the Indians/Guardians or the Angels?

They also didn't have ZERO plans, I get the frustration but adding 11 prospects to the 40 man roster, doesn't say ZERO plans, it says, hell we got a farm system that most teams are envious of...

The problem this offseason was, the FO pretty much had only a few players they were willing to trade for, that were the upgrades... Winker we lost cause we weren't willing to take on Suarez' bad contract. We lost in the Olson bidding because Atlanta outbid... We weren't going to extend him and Atlanta beat ours because we weren't willing to give up that much for a two year player... Reynolds, we tried to get, but the Pirates wanted way more than he was worth. Gomes we lost because the other team added an extra year, which on paper makes no sense to do...

Small market teams, don't get a ton of money to spend on payroll... we will never be above the bottom ten since our attendance to games has never been above the top ten in the last decade when we were what number 2 in wins in baseball in that decade. Attendance is huge for payroll...

Small market teams will not have much player loyalty in the current CBA that supports the big markets more than the small.... Tell me how many players have played with he Rays longer than 6 MLB seasons? Can you even name Rays players anymore? Yet they keep winning and winning, why? Because they do a great job of shuffling the roster when they have to pay them...

This organization flopped on drafting and developing OFs for a fair amount of years, hence why we struggled to transition from 18 to 19, when guys were due money... The FO has some blame in the situation, but the CBA supporting large markets and making it almost worthless to sign FAs to fill in holes, is also to blame and the fans have some of the blame too. We are a highly rated TV, but piss poor in attendance, yet number 2 in wins in the last decade. Can't blame the fact we have been winning yet no one comes out on the FO...

Yeah yeah yeah. Been here, seen nothing, moved along.

Didn't you say you were done with Cleveland Baseball when the team name was announced? Just trying to figure out why you are still here. Is it just to stir some thing up?

I mean, you are completely ignoring the fact they have laid the foundation to compete while claiming 'no plan to get better' so I am assuming you are just trolling at this point?

Either you are not reading the posts here, with an amazing insider that few forums have, or you are blatantly being this way.

I'm always for letting a guy rant. No need to throw up pitchforks.

Indians do have a very good group of starting talent. It's just the players behind them.

Fans should've came into this year with a white towel mentality, but also hoping for the kids to emerge in April, and more come June, hopefully.

At best we are fighting tooth and nail for a WC spot, and still probably 3-5 games out of one by times end.

Agreed. I’m expecting at best this year and next being at .500.

We have another insider.. to go with @Andrew Scheid ?????

This year may even be below .500 but next year and the year after are very good bets to finish above and be a strong team.
Hoynes, Schudell, Pluto etc etc.. all the brilliant newsies predicted the Guardians to be under .500.. they're always wrong.. too...

Heard attendance today was under 10k and last night was under 15k??

Yay or nay?

So your disdain for this team is founded upon a) not acquiring anyone in a major trade b) not signing any expensive FA c) less than 10k fans on Easter Sunday with 30 degree temps? All the while totally ignoring a) one of the best pitching staffs in the league b) one of the best farm systems in the league with a large amount of its talent in AAA and AA c) JRam, Clase, and Straw signing long term deals. :biggrinthumb:

Look, I don't think you have to agree with everything or every decision this organization makes, but to have a doom and gloom outlook for one of the healthiest organizations in baseball seems silly to me.

I don't blame the attendance being horrible on Sunday and Monday, both are bad games weather wise...

You kind of have to blame that on the voters, since they voted on an open air stadium in Cleveland, Ohio...

I’ll believe when I see:

The low payroll is actually because of the fact we have so many young players on the roster. About 75% of our roster is pre-arb, which means we have a really young team and if you ask any analyst about the future of this organization, they will tell you, it's amazing because of the talent and depth of talent at every position.

We have a SS prospect that's compared to Correa, and another compared to Lindor. We have a 2B/SS prospect with the best hit tool in all the minors (Comparison is DJ LeMahieu with less power). Valera's swing is compared to a left handed young Manny Ramirez... We have two Ace potential SPs who are likely making their MLB debuts in 23 and 24... Plus our organization is nicknamed the pitching factory since we can produce more SPs than any other organization in baseball... Also we have guys now like Kwan, Miller, Clement, who are plus contact that how low SO rates and solid BB rates.

This team compares to the early 90s Indians, if anything it's potential is higher cause of the pitching. Only thing we are missing is depth in power hitters... which we have too many prospects to keep so I believe we may trade a Rosario, maybe a Plesac, but otherwise we are going to work on acquiring player to fill in areas where the prospects haven't stepped up in the next year or so...

The FO has a plan, either acquire All-stars with team control or keep the prospects... Either be patient with that or go follow the Dodgers since they can keep all their players and sign FAs...
